We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christian Romero a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Christian , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
When I moved from Buenos Aires, Argentina to Miami, my brother Alex introduced me to a new indoor soccer stadium in the Wynwood neighborhood. I would often arrive a few hours early before playing, just to walk the streets and admire the incredible murals everywhere. One day, Mike, the owner of the stadium, invited me to experience the Wynwood Art Walk for the first time. That’s when I realized how many people stayed only on the main avenue and never explored the side streets or places like 5th Avenue, where so much art and culture were waiting to be discovered.
I kept thinking about this for years. Later, when I met my girlfriend—now my wife—I shared an idea with her: what if we used a golf cart to transport visitors around Wynwood for free, so they could feel safe, welcomed, and guided by someone local? She immediately supported me and believed in the idea. At first, I thought the city or a sponsor might back the project, but that never happened. So, for two years, I did it on my own, completely free.
Eventually, I was able to secure the necessary permits and insurance. With the collaboration of local artist Golden 305 and the support of friends like Diego, Verónica, and Daniel, we transformed the project into organized street art tours. That’s how Wynwood Buggies was born—out of a passion for art, community, and helping people truly experience the neighborhood.

Christian , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
About Me & My Work
When I first started Wynwood Buggies, there wasn’t really a blueprint to follow. No one was offering immersive, curated street art tours in the way I envisioned them. That meant I had to build this idea day by day, from the ground up. Ten or fifteen years ago, urban and street art weren’t as widely recognized or celebrated as they are today, so I immersed myself in this world—learning, researching, and connecting with artists and community leaders who guided me along the way.
What we offer today is more than just a tour. Wynwood Buggies provides immersive cultural experiences that combine storytelling, history, and sustainability. Guests don’t just see murals; they understand the context, the artist’s vision, and the cultural heartbeat of the neighborhood. We solve a common problem for visitors: instead of wandering through Wynwood without really knowing what they’re looking at, we give them the tools to appreciate the art, the stories, and the community behind it.
What Sets Us Apart
– Authenticity: Every explanation is rooted in real conversations with artists and locals.
– Storytelling: We weave history, culture, and personal narratives into each stop, so guests leave with a deeper connection to the place.
– Sustainability: Our tours are designed to be eco-conscious and community-focused, ensuring that growth benefits both visitors and locals.
– Innovation: From unique partnerships to bundled experiences, we’re always finding new ways to expand what a “tour” can be.
What I’m Most Proud Of
I’m proud that this business was born without a direct comparison or model to copy. It was built from passion, persistence, and a belief that street art deserved to be understood and celebrated. Over the years, I’ve watched Wynwood evolve, and I’m proud that Wynwood Buggies has played a role in shaping how people experience and value this art form.
What I Want People to Know
Wynwood Buggies isn’t just about sightseeing—it’s about connection. Connection to the art, to the artists, to the history of Miami, and to each other. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a local, our goal is to make you feel part of the story.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
For me, it wasn’t a book or video that shaped my entrepreneurial journey the most—it was the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Miami Dade College. That course was transformative because it broke down, step by step, how to properly structure and manage a business. Beyond the technical side, it also taught me how to work effectively with people who may approach things differently than I expect.
It was an invaluable experience on both a personal and professional level. On the business side, I gained practical tools to strengthen operations, strategy, and growth planning. On the personal side, I learned how to become a more adaptable and empathetic leader—skills that continue to guide me every day as I build Wynwood Buggies and collaborate with artists, partners, and guests.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I think my resilience has been tested most during two very different pandemics. The first was in 2016, when the Zika virus hit Wynwood. It was devastating for the neighborhood—businesses saw visitor numbers collapse, and I remember even a popular local bakery giving away bread because sales had dropped so sharply. Then, just a few years later, the COVID-19 pandemic brought an even harder challenge.
During COVID, my company couldn’t operate tours at all, but I was fortunate to have the support of local artists and the community around me. Together, we found ways to solve problems, adapt, and keep moving forward, even when the business itself was at a standstill. Those experiences taught me that resilience isn’t just about surviving tough times—it’s about leaning on your community, staying creative, and finding ways to contribute even when circumstances are out of your control.
