We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christian Ortiz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christian below.
Christian, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
At ModAtlas Media, we’ve witnessed firsthand how the dynamic world of social media marketing can be both a land of opportunity and a minefield for brands. While social media offers unparalleled avenues for connection and engagement, missteps in this arena can have lasting repercussions. Let’s dive into what Corporate America often gets wrong in social media marketing and why getting it right matters more than ever.
Common Pitfalls in Social Media Marketing:
The Cookie-Cutter Approach: Many companies apply a uniform strategy across all platforms, failing to leverage the unique audience and content style specific to each. At ModAtlas Media, we believe in a tailored approach, understanding that what works on Instagram might not resonate on LinkedIn.
The Numbers Game: While follower counts and likes are tangible metrics, they don’t paint the full picture. Engagement and community interaction are the true heartbeats of social media success. We focus on fostering genuine conversations and building a loyal community around your brand.
Feedback Blackholes: Social media is interactive, yet some brands fall into the trap of using it as a one-way promotional channel. We ensure your brand listens, responds, and evolves based on customer feedback, turning your social media into a valuable customer service tool.
Inconsistent Brand Messaging: A disjointed brand voice across channels can confuse your audience. Our team at ModAtlas Media helps maintain a consistent, authentic brand voice that resonates with your audience, irrespective of the platform.
Over-Promotional Content: An aggressive sales pitch can be off-putting. We strike a balance with content that adds value, educates, entertains, and then sells.
Forgetting the Human Touch: People connect with people, not faceless corporations. We humanize your brand, showcasing the people behind your products and services.
Cultural Missteps: We’ve seen campaigns backfire when they overlook cultural sensitivities. Our strategy always involves understanding the cultural, social, and political nuances of your audience.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As the heart and soul behind MOD ATLAS MEDIA, I’ve discovered a profound equilibrium between my roles as a business owner and a social activist. This journey of balance is deeply rooted in a core belief: the pursuit of success should never come at the cost of others’ well-being. That’s why I stand as a ‘one-man show,’ a conscious choice that reflects my commitment to ethical entrepreneurship.
In a world where the corporate machine often runs on the fuel of exploitation, I’ve chosen a different path. My brand isn’t just a business; it’s a manifestation of passion and creativity, untainted by the desire for profit at any price. It’s built on the principle that true success is measured not just in revenue, but in the positive impact I make and the integrity with which I operate.
Every aspect of MOD ATLAS MEDIA – from my client interactions to my innovative projects like Justice AI – is infused with this ethos. Here, every decision is a balance between advancing my business goals and upholding my social responsibilities. This harmony allows me to drive change, inspire action, and foster a digital environment where ethics and creativity coexist.
I believe that one can be both a successful entrepreneur and a genuine social activist. This belief is the cornerstone of my journey, guiding MOD ATLAS MEDIA to be more than just a brand – it’s a beacon of responsible business and creative excellence.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My story is one of resilience, born from the challenges I faced in a small southern town where I spent 25 years of my life. This town, with its narrow perspectives and unyielding mindsets, was the crucible in which my determination and resilience were forged.
Growing up, my vision always extended beyond the confines of the town’s traditional thinking. I dreamt big, aspiring to create something that resonated on a much larger scale. However, my ideas were often met with skepticism and misunderstanding. People couldn’t grasp the breadth of what I aimed to achieve, especially in the realm of social media and digital marketing, which was still burgeoning at the time.
The challenges I faced were compounded by the pervasive racism in the town. As a person of color, I encountered prejudice and narrow-mindedness daily. This environment was particularly taxing as I navigated my dual roles as a social activist and a business owner. It wasn’t just about building a brand; it was about standing up for what I believed in, often in the face of hostile or ignorant attitudes.
Yet, it was in this challenging atmosphere that my resilience took root. I learned to harness the power of social media to transcend the limitations of my immediate surroundings. My brand, MOD ATLAS MEDIA, became a digital sanctuary where creativity and progressivism could thrive, unhindered by the geographical and ideological constraints of my small town.
I used social media not just as a tool for business growth, but as a platform to advocate for social justice, to challenge racist ideologies, and to connect with like-minded individuals who shared my vision for a more inclusive and understanding world.
The journey was fraught with obstacles, but each hurdle only strengthened my resolve. I developed a thick skin against the naysayers, using their doubt as fuel to drive my ambition and creativity. I learned the invaluable skill of turning negativity into motivation, transforming every setback into a stepping stone towards success.
Now, as I reflect on my journey, I see a tapestry of experiences that have shaped me into the resilient individual I am today. My time in that small southern town taught me the power of perseverance, the importance of staying true to one’s vision, and the strength that comes from facing adversity head-on.
Through MOD ATLAS MEDIA, I’ve not only built a successful brand but also a testament to the enduring spirit of resilience. It stands as proof that with determination and a willingness to challenge the status quo, one can rise above narrow-mindedness and create something truly impactful.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Growing up, I was ingrained with a mindset that prioritized financial gain over personal integrity. This belief was further cemented by the environment I was raised in, where the norm was to remain silent, especially in the face of injustice or racism. The unspoken rule was clear: keep your head down, focus on the money game, and don’t rock the boat.
When I launched MOD ATLAS MEDIA, these ingrained beliefs initially guided my business approach. I entered an industry where playing by the status quo seemed like the only way to succeed. There were instances where I encountered racism, and my instinct, shaped by years of conditioning, was to swallow my words and endure. I believed that being outspoken, especially on issues of race and social justice, was a surefire way to hinder my professional progress. I thought it would alienate clients and partners, and ultimately, be detrimental to my business.
However, this approach was in direct conflict with my core values and the mission I envisioned for MOD ATLAS MEDIA. I soon realized that staying silent in the face of injustice was not only a disservice to my principles but also to the potential impact of my brand. My silence was not neutrality; it was complicity. This realization was a turning point.
I had to unlearn the lesson of my youth – the belief that financial success was paramount, even at the cost of integrity and silence in the face of racism. I learned that true success comes from staying true to your values and using your voice for positive change. I embraced the role of being an outspoken advocate for social justice, intertwining this advocacy with my business ethos.
This shift wasn’t easy. It meant potentially risking business opportunities and facing backlash. But it also meant aligning my work with my beliefs, creating a brand that stood for something more than just profit. It led to a more authentic connection with my audience and clients who shared or respected my values.
Unlearning this lesson transformed both my personal and professional life. It redefined what success meant for MOD ATLAS MEDIA. It wasn’t just about financial gain anymore; it was about building a brand with integrity, one that boldly addresses and challenges social injustices.
Today, I am proud to say that unlearning this lesson has been one of my most significant achievements. It allowed me to build a brand that is not only successful but also reflective of my deepest convictions. My brand is making a difference. It taught me that integrity and success are not mutually exclusive, and in fact, when combined, they can lead to a more fulfilling and impactful business journey.
