Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christian Mosi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christian, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I grew up in Orlando, FL under a very Caribbean household. I would have friends ask questions about my culture. I loved explaining to people what Caribbean Culture was! It didn’t matter if it was food or music! That is how the idea of Christian Mosi was born. The Caribbean holds some of the most innovative fashion designers and creatives. I wanted to create a platform that helps highlight those talents and the masterpieces they created.
My grandmother was a seamstress so over the years I would pay attention to how she would pick fabrics. In return that would help build confidence in me as a child to love unique clothing and establishing habits of proper grooming. In this idea the concept of sharing Caribbean Culture from a minimal approach was born.
Christian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Derniele but I’m known in the fashion word as Christian Mosi. I’m the Clark Kent of Fashion a healthcare executive during the day but a fashionista by night. I’m famously known for my streetstyle looks from NYFW, Attending fashion shows and interviews with recording artist, fashion designers etc.
I created a lane for myself because I wasn’t going to wait for someone to do it for me. I decided to volunteer as a freelance fashion assistant first to get a better understanding of the fashion industry. In addition, I have worked as a freelance fashion assistant professionally, managing editor and consultant for public relations/ modeling agency.
I help potential clients get their clothing in front of celebrities, mentor upcoming fashion brands and help them get spaces in store or in a show room and lastly highlight upcoming trends at affordable prices on my social media platforms.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
Giving back to small upcoming brands or models that are POC, showing up in spaces and working with brands that has limited opportunities for POC and creating new opportunities to work with people from diverse backgrounds. I have a-lot of people that I do this for my family, my country and to be a role model for all who inspire to be in fashion.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Taking any opportunity small or big but giving 250% in each project or campaign. Professionalism and consistency are two things that has set my brand apart from others. It’s my due diligence for myself to hold my brand and self to a high standard.
