We were lucky to catch up with Christian Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
When it comes to buying a home, the first questions I receive are usually; “How much can I afford?” and “What’s your rate?”. While these are wonderful questions and easily answered by a bot or an online resource they truly do not serve the customer’s real needs. Most customers need a professional who will tailor their next loan to meet their current needs (housing) and future needs (financial gains). Putting someone in a home that is at their limit (“How much can I afford?”) does not serve them for financial success or quality of life, and chasing the “BEST” rate ignores other programs that may better serve their goals and their family!
Having a strong local mortgage advisor with a great reputation (Google) and many years of experience (let them make their mistakes on someone else) will pay dividends in the long run!!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I got my start in the mortgage industry 24 years ago. I worked for a company housed out of a one-bedroom apartment and learned the business by “failing forward.” I was terrible at the job but every day after work I would get in the car, turn off the radio and think about what I did wrong that day, how I could have done things differently, and how I could do better the next day! Each day I wanted to find ways to improve. Now, I have put in over 10,000 hours in the business and I have become one of the Top Producing Loan Officers in Dallas and am in the Top 1% of Producing Loan Officers in the Country! I’m humbled every day to have come this far. The beauty of being in the mortgage industry is that we are continually learning and growing. No two days are the same! We are always being challenged with new and interesting home loan scenarios to puzzle together.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My core beliefs in Quality, Consistency, and Attention to Detail were driven by me during my time as a restaurant manager for Houston’s Restaurants. While with them in the 5 years prior to entering the mortgage space, I came to embrace my inner beliefs that attention to these attributes is consistent with quality and can only enrich any product. There is a reason customers continue to come back time and time again. They were made to feel special, and extra care was given to their experience on every visit.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I have been fortunate enough to have earned the trust of Dallas’s Top Real Estate Agents and Urban Builders. They each care a great deal about their brands and reputation and certainly do not take their client experience lightly. It is such an honor to be an integral part of their service and to be allowed the opportunity to enhance their brand at every opportunity. We care deeply for our clients and partners and strive to insure the experience is the most consistent, reliable, and financially sound in the industry.
