We were lucky to catch up with Christian Ferreras recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I believe you have to go through some type of failure to build yourself or your business to the highest level possible. The journey of the ups and downs in my situations is what humbles me and drives me to be the best I can be.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Chris, I was born in Passaic, NJ and grew up in stroudsburg, PA, I now currently live in Raleigh, NC, I been a carolinian for 4 years now. I’m a father of 3 beautiful children, I run my own trucking business, and currently serve in the US ARMY Reserve as a Military Police Officer. I got into the trucking industry in feb of 2021 when my fiancé was pregnant with my first born. I was a security officer making $13hr, I felt like I was failing financially and needed a solution to be able provide for my family and have a good career. I started researching 6 figure jobs/businesses and came across the trucking industry. Of course when people think of “trucking” they think you need a CDL. Well, I found a way to be an owner operator, and drive legally without a CDL, which is owning box trucks under 28ft long weighing no more than 26,000lbs. I immediately put all my effort and investments into building my company with these type of trucks. I had $9,000 saved up and with a little help of my family financially, I was able to purchase my first truck, and have all my insurances and company permits ready to work within less than 2 months. I started off over-the-road delivering a variety of products from warehouse to warehouse in all different states for about 2 years. But then, my fiancé and I, had more children and it was time we needed to find a better solution since I was away from home most of the time. I went on a contract search that would give me the benefit of going home every day, and I landed a contract with Lowes home improvement. I’ve been contracting with lowes for over a year now and within that time frame I grew 2 more trucks and multiple employees, that’s a total of 3 trucks and 6 employees. We deliver all types of products that Lowes sell to customers home or workplace. What I’m most proud of is, coming from where I come from, there isn’t a lot of options to be successful and I was able beat those odds. Now I’m able to show and motivate my people around me and those from my hometown that there is a way out and you have the ability to have a good career and be financially free, you just need to find your niche. I’m proud that I can make a solution out of every problem that comes my way with the grace of god. I want my business partners and customers to know, that we will do everything we can to make the best and successful experience with us. I will continue to give my all to my business, and will continue to make my customers proud.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What helped me was building strong connection’s, staying consistent, and putting myself on the front lines before anyone and showing that I’m capable of taking on any task and completing them in the best way possible.
Any advice for managing a team?
When I have a team that see’s the benefits of helping them grow as individuals, I know I got a team that can count on me and get them where they need to be. I build bonds with my employees, that makes them feel like they’re in the right direction in life. We make work a fun and safe place. At the end of the day, I have a business to run and we all understand that.
