We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christian Ellis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christian below.
Christian, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Our podcast started out as a group chat and we were nervous about branching out because we’re talking about virginity, sexuality, and church stereotypes, and those topics could change the way people think about us. Many of the people in our families had no idea about our real lives until the podcast. Discussing our upbringings, problems with the church, and our own mental health journey was a scary step. We made the decision to lay things out on the table very boldly and without remorse. Starting the pod was a very great decision but definitely a risky one.

Christian, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Our podcast is called “Two Virgins and a Harlot” which is a very in-your-face name. The problem was that there are many stereotypes about virginity and sex within the church that wasn’t talked about. We wanted people to feel seen and break down the veil of sexuality, mental health, and being a millennial nowadays. Two of us are 30+ virgins living in this era and that is hard, while one of us is learning to practice celibacy which is really hard as well. The world bleeds sex 24/7 and some of us are abstaining and our experiences deserve to be told. Dating horror stories, wins, losses, and millennial grief needs to be heard.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is expressing ourselves without remorse. Whether people understand or not, we are able to express ourselves in our respective ways. We each can bring a piece to this podcast and we each respect that piece. Also, being able to show love to everyone is very rewarding. Many people are marginalized and ridiculed but we just want to love everyone regardless of what anyone thinks. Best part of it all is we can’t be stopped or shut down.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
First, everyone is creative in some shape, way, or form. People who think they’re not creative usually compare themselves to the creatives around them rather than see what creativity they possess. However, “non-creatives” may not understand the way we think and how some decisions don’t seem logical. We may have some huge idea or dream that doesn’t match our current reality and “non-creatives” may think that’s insane. Any life-changing thing has usually come from an insane idea.
