We recently connected with Christian Collazo and have shared our conversation below.
Christian, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
Although I don’t believe in heroes, I am deeply appreciative of all the people who have invested their time and energy into me. Rather than being influenced by one singular figure, my journey has been shaped by a community of individuals—friends, family, and even strangers—who have shared their wisdom, offered support, or encouraged me to see the world from a different perspective.
One of the most impactful lessons I’ve learned is the importance of resilience and authenticity. I’ve come to realize that you don’t have to fit the mold—sometimes the mold itself needs breaking. This idea has stuck with me, serving as a reminder to embrace my individuality and approach challenges as opportunities for growth.
Authenticity and resilience are essential in both business and videography, as they foster trust, creativity, and long-term success. In business, authenticity helps build trust, differentiate your brand, and create consistency, making your actions and messaging more dependable. Resilience, on the other hand, is vital for overcoming challenges, learning from setbacks, and staying focused on long-term goals in business. Together, authenticity and resilience complement each other by enabling genuine connections and sustaining meaningful work through challenges, forming the foundation for enduring success in any creative or professional field.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Christian Collazo, Managing Director of Baskuiat Films. My passion for videography started with an unexpected opportunity. My brother-in-law introduced me to a project where we filmed a promo video for someone pitching their idea for a show to networks. That experience opened my eyes to the power of storytelling through visuals and the incredible impact creative content can have. Since then, I’ve been dedicated to refining my craft and helping others bring their visions to life. Over time, I’ve honed my skills to provide videography, concept development, commercial production, corporate video production, as well as social media content creation. My company is always focusing on delivering quality, authenticity, innovation to our clients.
The core of my work is solving specific problems that my client experience involving, saving time, telling impactful stories, and creating a visual brand identity. What sets me us apart is that we take the time to deeply understand our clients’ needs, ensuring that we not only meet but exceed expectations with every video we create. Our approach is highly collaborative, keeping you involved at every stage of production—from concept to final edit. This partnership results in content that feels true to your brand and speaks directly to your audience.
I’m incredibly proud of the moments when subjective work, which started as an idea or vision, is fully realized through collaboration with my clients. There’s a unique satisfaction in seeing their initial concepts come to life in a way that exceeds their expectations. Watching them connect emotionally with the finished product, knowing that it reflects their vision, is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.
What truly makes it special is the feedback and approval I receive from my clients. Knowing they trust my work and feel proud of the final result is a testament to the dedication and care we put into every project. It’s not just about delivering a video; it’s about crafting something meaningful that aligns with their goals, resonates with their audience, and enhances their brand.
The approval and satisfaction of my clients drive me to continue pushing boundaries, striving for perfection, and ensuring that every video I create has the same level of passion and attention to detail. There’s nothing more fulfilling than knowing I’ve played a part in bringing their vision to life and that they’ll continue to rely on me for their future projects.
Above all, I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know that their ideations matter. We are here to help create, collaborate, and make their visions becoming reality.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
In 2018, when Instagram launched Stories, I started uploading my horizontal content and displaying it vertically. It was a bit unconventional at the time, but it made my videos stand out. People began reaching out to ask why my videos looked so much better than the ads that were showing up on the platform. That’s when things started to click for me—I began booking all sorts of different opportunities because of that extra level of quality I was offering.
As I got more work, I saved up money and started investing in better equipment. My first camera was a Canon T3i. It didn’t have autofocus or any of the newer technologies, so I had to really focus on learning the basics—like framing shots, getting the composition right, and keeping everything in focus. It wasn’t easy at first, but it taught me the essential skills that have been key to my growth as a videographer.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
For me, it’s all about creating and fostering a moment when capturing content. It’s not just about getting a great shot; it’s about building a connection with the client and making sure they feel comfortable and understood throughout the process. Offering top-tier customer service is essential—it’s about going above and beyond to make the entire experience seamless and memorable for them. That’s the backbone of my company. When clients feel valued and have a smooth experience from start to finish, it leaves a lasting impression. And that’s what leads to referrals and more opportunities. Word of mouth is incredibly powerful, and it’s those positive experiences that bring in new clients and keep things growing.
