We recently connected with Christian Cashelle and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christian thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright – so having the idea is one thing, but going from idea to execution is where countless people drop the ball. Can you talk to us about your journey from idea to execution?
I fell in love with writing the age of 8. This carried over into high school where I found a popular message board filled with fanfiction (stories where the group B2K were used as main characters and placed in fantasy positions). My writings grew in popularity online, so I decided to print them and grow an audience at my high school. I was surprised at how much my stories grew in popularity. I even had to create a library system where people would come to my locker and check them in and out so it was easier to keep track of them. Kids would get in trouble in class for reading my books instead of doing their work. It wasn’t until my senior year of high school that I began to take it seriously and think about the possibility of publishing professionally. During my first year of college, I decided to self-publish my first novel. It was horrible! It was not edited, the formatting was off and the cover was very bland! I was so excited to be a published author but I realized then I had a lot to learn. While trying to promote my first book. I began a deep dive into researching the industry, what all was expected of published authors and what stigma self-published authors have. That was when I began to get serious about what services I would offer and what my process of publishing would be. I used my next few publications as “test drives” since I was the author, it took less pressure off to succeed in the industry. It wasn’t until 2014 that I began to publish others, now having a standard operating procedure on editing, formatting and design, printing, and distribution. In 2011, I branched out into offering freelance services for those outside of my publishing house. Since then we have helped dozen of authors publish their own work.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Dynamic Image Publications was founded June 5, 2006, by Christian Cashelle. With a vision and a finished manuscript, Christian planned to shop her first book with traditional publishers. After an endless search to find a publishing house that catered to her genre and style of writing, Christian realized there were none. With the help of her online community of writers, she founded Dynamic Image with a mission to create a space for writers like herself.
Dynamic Image’s mission is to be a motivating publishing house that displays triumph and redemption as central themes in our literature and ultimately influencing the lives of our readers in a positive way. We aspire to entertain while motivating our readers to better themselves through stories of love, triumph, redemption, and faith.
In 2011, Christian won the Author of the Year award at the St. Louis Traffic Music Awards for her novel, My Joy.
In 2009, Dynamic Edits was created to aid all writers by providing quality editing services. Editors Christian and Jasmine freelance for various genres outside of the Dynamic Image family to polish manuscripts and other projects for writers.
After publishing her own titles for years, Christian welcomed two new authors to the roster in 2017, also branching out into poetry and nonfiction in the following years to come.
Dynamic Image Publications is committed to creating literature that creates positive change in the culture through stories of love, triumph, and redemption.
Not only do we publish literature that creates change by showcasing the culture through stories of triumph, love and redemption, but we are also a resource hub. So, even if you are not a Dynamic Author, we are still here to support you with your literary career. We offer a multitude of services that includes line editing, manuscript development, print and ebook formatting, and coaching. We will get your project as polished as possible and ready for your audience.
What sets us apart is our compassion for authors because we are authors. We understand the need to be authentic and keep the tone genuine. It makes all the difference when offering editing services.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being authentic and transparent with my clients has caused my retention and referral rate to increase. I offer consultations where I ease any hesitations or concerns for my clients and understand their perspectives as new or existing authors. I have heard horror stories of previous editors and want to make sure that they understand how the process works and how in control they are.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
The pre-and post- marketing strategy is one I wish I would have known. When I wrote my first book, I thought all I had to do was write it and it would sell. That was not the case. I didn’t realize how much intention I would need to put into marketing as a self-published author. Having this knowledge has been more helpful with this in mind.
