We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christian Cameron. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christian below.
Christian , appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
I’m from Indianapolis, In and had very established clientele. Everytime I would travel I just knew there was more to life. I took the risk of moving 9 1/2 hours away with knowing NOT ONE PERSON in 2019, to expand my clientele and move to a bigger, faster paced city. Within the almost 6 years since I’ve moved, I’ve built a dedicated, loyal clientele, have traveled out of the country & have worked with celebrities all for getting out my comfort zone!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Christian Cameron and I’m a makeup artist in Charlotte, NC. I’m originally from Indianapolis and I moved here in 2019! I got into makeup because of my old manager when I worked at at a restaurant who begged me to apply at Mac Cosmetics for 6 months and I finally did and I was actually very good at it! I worked at Mac for 8 years and just recently quit to freelance full time for myself. It’s been 7 months now and it’s been great!
I’m proud of my resilience and determination to be the best version of me! I didn’t have that much money when I moved, I went from couch to couch, but I was determined to make it in a bigger city outside of my home. I launched a brand of my own BeyondBronzedBeauty Cosmetics and it was growing faster and faster as the days go on!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I moved to Charlotte specifically from the airport. Everywhere I was traveling to, I was wondering if I could move there. I had a layover in Charlotte on the way to Atlanta & when I got off the plane I said wow this feels like home. I transferred Mac’s (without knowing anything or even visiting the city) and when I first visited Charlotte I had packed up my red Malibu and I was moving here. I moved with a clients sister & worked part time at Mac and was driving 10 hours back home to Indiana every other weekend to do my clients back there! I was determined to make a name for myself in another market
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I’ve had to unlearn is comparing myself to others! Whatever is meant for you, will happen when it’s supposed to!
The backstory was comparing myself to other people looking at their clients they were getting or the opportunities they were getting presented and feeling like I was deserving of them when in reality, I wasn’t even prepared for the things that I thought I wanted! Now that I’ve gotten the things that I’ve prayed for, I realized I wouldn’t have been in the space to get it!
