Christian , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

Ventura Makos Surf Camp is The #1 Surf School in Ventura County with a mission to educate all of our participants about surfing & ocean safety. Since we have started our foundation has been built off creating a fun & safe atmosphere for our clients to thrive in. Whether you are first starting, a toddler/child/teen/adult, beginner-advanced surfer; Ventura Makos is able to help/offer a service for your surfing needs. Surfing is something that connects us mentally, physically and emotionally in a way that is incomparable to anything else. All ages are welcomed to join us and experience this indescribable feeling out on the water. We cannot thank you all enough for allowing us to share the stoke of surfing and to be able to educate you all about ocean safety & knowledge

I (Christian Brock) grew up swimming, surfing, going to junior lifeguards, playing water polo, being in the ocean at any given moment of the day. Over the years personally learning these water men skill sets and becoming certified in multiple safety/ocean safety certification courses has become a very strong passion of mine while teaching surfing as a profession. Working with children has turned that passion into not only learning, but sharing/explaining/teaching all these skill sets to our local youth and those that get involved with Ventura Makos Surf Camp. So providing not only an amazing fun experience out on the water surfing is our goal, but educating you along the way to develop some life changing skill sets/awareness out in the water is just as important too.

Hi,

My name is Christian Brock and I am the proud owner of Ventura Makos Surf Camp located in Ventura, California. I am a father to (2) beautiful daughters, a loyal husband and a professional stoke therapist on a mission to share the love/light of Jesus Christ. Sharing the love/good vibes while making memories is what life is all about, it’s an honor to be where I am at today and share my story with you all!!

I started working at this surf company when I was just 16 years old and ended up buying the business during the pandemic in 2020. Throughout that journey I juggled many jobs, traveled a little around the world, met my wife and ended up having kids to create our beautiful family in our early twenties. So being a young fresh/new father trying to make ends meet as a surf instructor heading into a world wide pandemic I needed to make some real time decisions. I had been loyal to the surf company and it’s previous owner for over 10 years and poured my everything into the company. So we ended up finally making a deal and I purchased the company at the end of 2020 solidifying myself as the proud new owner of Ventura Makos Surf Camp!!!! This was a major achievement and since then have put my everything into this company while making sure I find the proper balance to maintain a healthy lifestyle with my family at home.

For over the last 15 years I have been surf instructing/coaching for all of the Ventura Makos Surf Camp programs throughout the summer/fall/spring. I am also the head coach for the local middle school & high school surf teams here in Ventura which just had another undefeated season in our league along with placing very well in the recent California State Championships. Doing private lessons for beginners to advance surfers is on the daily for me and I also LOVE doing surf therapy for kids/adults that have any physical and/or mental disabilities.

Something that I can confidently say about our program that separates us from all the rest is if you really are looking to get into surfing as a sport/hobby/new journey then we are in it for the long haul!!! From young toddlers starting out to current young professional surfers on the WSL events, we have living breathing proof & testimonials that show that we truly care about your surf journey and can help take you all the way.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Check out either of my previous responses and if struggling financially through your late teens/early twenties, having a kid, going into a pandemic and STILL having the courage/resilience to pursue my passion/dreams and come out on top as a business owner/father/husband/role model/community leader has got to be my main story besides spreading the good word ;)

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Let go of your ego and move forward by taking action in love/giving/faith.

We all seem to be apart of this crazy thing called life…. throughout my journey I have seen all walks of life & success. No matter how much money it is or how many cool things you may own or have done or can show for….. in the end if you are doing it for yourself and only you…. then it’s gonna be just you in the end with yourself.

If you do things for others or your friends/family continuously then relationships grow and connections are made and emotions are refueled while memories/moments of time are created. Doing this will help get you out of that weird funk or get you out of that depressive state and out of the mental/spiritual battle.

When seeking for all of the answers by yourself is not working and you feel like you are at a loss…. this is God crying for your attention to put your faith in Him and lean not on your own understanding, but His understanding. Having faith in Jesus creates such a firm foundation that if you truly believe and accept Christ then nothing can stand against. So I highly encourage you all to have faith and spread true love (1 John 4:16)
