We recently connected with Christian Aparicio and have shared our conversation below.
Christian, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
Naturally, creativity comes with being an artist. It’s in my DNA. My artistry can’t exist without my God given creativity. I’m happy being myself. An artist and a creative.
I’ve had many “regular” jobs. I’ve worked at restaurants, retail stores, non-profits, etc. What’s funny is that in every job I have had, my desire to create was always in the back of my head. Through every work opportunity I learned that the “regular” job is a blessing that can fuel my artistry until my creative work becomes my main source of income. 5 years ago I worked at urban outfitters and spent at least 8 hours a day inside the store walking around and doing random stuff us employees had to do. One day I stopped to think and realized that the money I was making there was not worth all the time I wasted standing inside a store holding off my creative dreams. That was one of the money jobs I quit for the sake of my creative calling.
Creativity is a bi-product of my hapiness. That’s what makes me an artist.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a music artist/producer. I am also a film maker/creative director. When it comes to my music, I go by my name “Christian Aparicio”. When it comes to my film and creative direction, I go by “Christopher Jaime”.
I believe art is a language, and I want to speak life through my art. That’s my mission. My art inspires and empowers people to be the best version of themselves. I want to point people towards faith, hope, and love.
What sets me apart is me. Just like everyone else in the world, I have my own origin story. That’s the cool thing. I am unique in every way and there is no one else just like me in this world. There never has been and never will be anyone just like me in the world. I am purposefully unique. Because I believe that to be true, my art is a product of me and everything that makes me. Because this is true, my art brings a different perspective to the world. A new lens to consider and look through. It’s an opportunity to experience something new.
I want my fans/clients to know that about themselves. I want them to know how valuable and unique they are. I want them to know that because they are purposefully unique, they have something new to offer the world around them. Ultimately I want anyone that I impact to know they are loved and worth loving.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
One of the best things society can do to best support artists, creatives, and a thriving creative ecosystem is to value the artist and creative over their understanding of what “art” should feel/look like.
Behind every committed and consistant artist, there are years and years of craft development, practice, and self investment. Investment of time, money, and life dedicated to becoming the artist they currently are. Society rarely takes that into account and is quick to place their cheapest bid on the work of any creative.
Invest in the artist, not the art.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I’ll say what Kanye said. “My focus is on building real products in the real world.”
