We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Christiaan Tahyar. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Christiaan below.
Christiaan, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
So, back in 2019, I decided to take a pretty big risk by starting my own business, Moose Mob Media, with a good friend of mine. Before that, I had mainly worked as a camera operator in the media industry, and while it was cool, I felt like I didn’t have enough control over my life and the kind of creative projects I could work on.
My friend and I used to chat a lot about our shared love for creative media and how awesome it would be to start our own company. After a ton of late-night talks, we figured, “Why not? Let’s give it a shot!” We put our heads together, came up with a business plan, and got to work on making our dream a reality.
Now, I’m not gonna lie, it was pretty tough at first. We had to keep our day jobs and work on Moose Mob Media during every spare moment we could find. Plus, starting a business during the COVID era was no joke. It threw a bunch of obstacles our way, like finding clients, handling finances, and just figuring out how to be entrepreneurs in such an uncertain time. But, we were super motivated by our vision and just kept pushing through.
Eventually, things started looking up. We got some clients who really dug our unique take on creative media, and our passion for what we did shone through. Our portfolio got bigger and bigger, and we were finally able to focus on Moose Mob Media full-time.
Now, when I look back, I can honestly say that starting my own business was one of the best risks I’ve ever taken. Yeah, it was a challenge, especially during the pandemic, but it’s been so rewarding. I’ve learned a ton about never giving up, being adaptable, and just going after what I’m passionate about. Plus, I’ve got the creative freedom and control over my life that I always wanted!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Since I was a kid, storytelling has always been a big part of my life. I started making student films in high school, which led to me getting involved in film festivals and eventually studying film production in college. I was particularly drawn to camera work because it allowed me to bring visually-driven stories to life.
Fast forward to today, and I’m one of the co-founders of Moose Mob Media. We create social suites and assets for our clients while also working on our own creative projects, like writing and developing web shows. We started our business just before the COVID pandemic, and honestly, I feel grateful for how we’ve managed to keep going and even grow during such a challenging time.
At the core of Moose Mob Media is our love for storytelling. Whether we’re working on an ad or a film, we always start with the story. What we try to bring to the table is our unique voice, which we believe adds a special touch to our work. We focus on creating engaging, genuine narratives that connect with people and showcase our distinct perspective and style.
If you’re considering working with us or just following our journey, please know that we’re all about storytelling infused with our own flair. Our brand is built on our passion for creativity and our commitment to telling stories that matter, while remaining true to our individual voice.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One lesson I had to unlearn came from my early days in the media industry. Back then, I thought the only thing that mattered was the result of a project or endeavor. Of course, results are important, but over time, I realized that focusing solely on the outcome just wasn’t sustainable.
If the only thing you love about the creative journey is the result, chances are, you won’t make it very far. I had to remind myself why I got into this in the first place—it was because I loved the creative process. The truth is, the process takes up most of your life, so that’s what you should really aim to love.
Unlearning this lesson helped me appreciate the creative journey more and allowed me to find fulfillment in the day-to-day work, not just the final product. And that shift in mindset has made all the difference in my career and personal projects.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and a creative is definitely the freedom to manage my own time and work on projects that I truly care about. It’s such a great feeling to have the flexibility to choose what I want to focus on and be able to pour my heart and soul into the things that genuinely excite and inspire me. That’s something I truly cherish about the creative path I’ve chosen.
