We were lucky to catch up with Christi Slider recently and have shared our conversation below.
Christi, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Taking care of customers isn’t just good business – it is often one of the main reasons folks went into business in the first place. So, we’d love to get a conversation going around how to best help clients feel appreciated – maybe you can share something you’ve done or seen someone do that’s been really effective at helping a customer feel valued?
I have seen some amazing gifts to clients. Some of the best gifts I have seen boutique portrait artists give are small canvases of one of their favorite client’s images. We like to do different things each year personally. During the year we have been known to give sweet metal ornaments to our best clients, and we love to give out beautiful handwritten joyful notes with our clients images printed on them. I know when I receive a handwritten note with a custom picture, I feel so appreciated and I know it’s an added touch that our clients love and value greatly.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
A little bit about me and my business. I officially opened my business in 2011, when I saw that I could share my portraits with others. In 2020, I completely rebranded and refocused my business. I realized that there was a great need for clients to have tangible portraits in their home. After working with an amazing mentor, and coaching group I realized that this generation is the first generation to not have tangible portraits in their home. The current generation only has an image on a phone to hold on. As a part of this mentorship group we had a goal of changing that, and giving this generation the opportunity to have the pleasure of having real portraits on their walls. The main thing I want my clients to know is that they are special enough to have a custom piece of artwork of their families adorning their walls.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Yes, most definitely! I wish I knew about mentorship groups and coaching groups earlier on in my business. The best way to scale your business is to have a coach pushing you to do your best. I also wish I knew more about numbers and how to be profitable and have a business that helps you achieve your goals.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My mission is to be able to provide opportunities for my family through business and to truly share how important each individual client is. I feel that it is important for each high school senior that I photograph know that the world needs them, and the world will not be the same without them in it. I want them to know who they are, and whose they are matters. They are important, and they have so much to give to the world to change it.
