Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christi Howard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a time you helped a customer really get an amazing result through their work with you.
I recently coached a mom of 4 whose kids’ ages ranged from toddler to tween. Her biggest struggles were finding balance in her life, spending time to focus on herself, and a calm sustainable routine for all the kids.
We worked together to identify what each struggle was, and how to set goals that were not just actionable and sustainable, but also ideal for her life. She recognized that changing habits in small increments and giving herself the “me” time she needed changed her world.
As she sat there crying, she realized what a powerful breakthrough she had. Her role wasn’t just a mom. Her life, dreams and goals mattered just as much as each of the 4 children she and her husband were bringing up. She realized her personal development became an integral part of her growing family’s overall wellbeing and development.
Christi, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
One day I was sitting on my therapist’s sofa retelling the story of what had happened that morning. We had a company meeting and normally I sit and pay attention to everything with ease. Not that morning. I looked around at everyone (even some close friends) and thought to myself “What on earth am I doing here?” “How did I get here and stay for so long?” Immediately, I almost stood up and walked out of the meeting… Would I possibly say I just needed to go to the bathroom? But no, I decided to remain in the meeting.
There was no mindfulness, only auto pilot. In that moment, I thought, I can’t be the only mom who feels this way. Thus, the idea of Me Time 4 Mom was born.
After utilizing my Family and Consumer Science degree, and becoming a Certified Professional Coach, I then founded Me Time 4 Mom. I’m also the Vice Chair of the non-profit organization the Family Life Coaching Association. My passion is encouraging the overwhelmed mom, to take time and design the lifestyle she truly deserves and to strengthen overall wellbeing for herself and her family. When I work with moms, we team up to create achievable, actionable goals while using positive motivation, vulnerability, self-compassion, and stress management.
Clients can collaborate with me in several different services including: an online course, 1:1 coaching, and a group membership program. Each of these offerings are unique and focus on coaching in a sustainable way considering the mom’s time.
Our family lives in Austin, TX which includes my husband and 2 kids (son and daughter) where we do our best to stay active and encourage fun for the whole family. I enjoy traveling and learning about other cultures, swimming until my fingers wrinkle, and water and wine with bubbles.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I think the pandemic taught us that resilience is going to be the new gold standard. Neuroplasticity tells us that our brains can literally be re-wired, and I saw that firsthand. When the pandemic first hit, I had a nice workspace at home, the kids were in school, and my husband went to his office in person. Once everything shut down, that all changed. We were teaching the kids from home, my husband was using my workspace, and I was working at night in our room. Snacks all day, keeping the kids away from his room while on CEO calls, and calendar fluidity was key to our lives. Eventually, we got into a groove and it all fit. After that, it taught us that even when circumstances change, we can figure them out as a family.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Personal development is such a fun topic for me! I continually go to conferences, connect with other coaches, and sign up for several online courses each year. All that being said, one book in particular really helped me understand behaviors and strengths really well, and how to relate them to life. The book is called The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks.
