We were lucky to catch up with Christi Clemons Hoffman recently and have shared our conversation below.

Christi, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.

When I was a kid growing up in the suburbs, I was “different.” Highly intuitive, I was interested in things my classmates in the 1970’s weren’t: Ghosts. UFOs. Mediumship. Spirituality. I had no one to talk to who shared these interests, and I had no idea I could do anything with my clairvoyant and claircognizant abilities.

As an adult, I went through the breakup of my marriage and knew there had to be a deeper meaning and purpose to this huge upheaval in my life. So I Googled: Karma, past lives, life lessons. I found a wealth of knowledge. I had already found others who shared my interests, and I found a lot of support. I also found out a lot about metaphysics and healing.

I began to take as many classes and read as many books as I could, and I learned to work with my abilities and help people. All this I did outside my full-time corporate job. I began seeing clients at a metaphysical center, the first such facility I had ever known about.

Then I lost my job in a huge corporate layoff. By then I knew that I wanted to keep growing my skills and client base and open a wellness center of my own. I took entrepreneurship classes through the severance packages and learned how to start and operate a business.

I didn’t have the capital for a brick and mortar shop, so I created Radiate Wellness as an online center. Practitioners wanted to join, and we launched the business.

Honestly, much of the nuts and bolts of running a business I am still figuring out. And COVID presented its own challenges, though we were ahead of the game by NOT having a brick and mortar business. As a result, we can reach clients in other states and other countries.

Starting a business seemed so daunting at first, but I took it step by step and called in a lot of help along the way. Having other practitioners in partnership really helps. Now I am so glad I was laid off!

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?

The field of holistic healing and consultation is very broad. What sets an excellent practitioner apart from the rest is humility and integrity. Humility tells us that we are not the ones doing the healing or providing the insight: It comes from a higher source. Leave ego at the door. Integrity means we help clients to the very best of our ability and do so out of love, without judgment, and keep clients’ stories sacred.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

Within the first year of being in business, Radiate Wellness was positioned as a leader in holistic wellness in the area. We attended events within that first year and people would stop by our booth and say, “Oh, you’re Radiate Wellness! You’ve been around forever, right?”

I think that’s because we maintain a high level of professionalism. We also are very aware of not just preaching to the choir–we attend many non-metaphysical events and present at businesses and civic organizations. We take care to make the metaphysical practical and approachable.

We also do very little formal marketing or advertising, opting for a wide referral base, repeat clients, classes and events, and social media. This ensures that people who are truly interested in who we are and what we do are spreading the word. We also offer referral discounts, so that our clients become our cheerleaders.
