We recently connected with Christen Jolicoeur and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christen, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My name is Christen Jolicoeur and I revive everyday lives with a system for more time, order, and peace. I enjoy organizing and categorizing just about anything – including time. I have really cracked the code when it comes to making time for the important things and enjoying peaceful moments.
My company, Patrici Publishing, exists to invest in the authorship and publications of Black and Brown writers ranging in experience or expertise. We offer services that are unique to the writer. Uplifting the masses of Black and Brown writers is a duty we don’t take lightly.
Among the many hats I wear, the most prevalent being an educator, author, and motivational speaker – it is important that I use my innate gifts to really help others live better lives.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Patrici Publishing exists to invest in the authorship and publications of Black and Brown writers ranging in experience or expertise by offer services that are unique to the writer. It is the sole privilege of Patrici Publishing to uplift the masses of Black and Brown people of color and their literary endeavors. Thoughtfully, our publications are told in truth– from one’s own view.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
During the 2020-2021 school year, approximately 55,000 teachers including myself, thrust their way back into classrooms all over New York City. It was scary. The subways and buses were nearly empty every day of the week. I’d have frequent headaches from hours of voice projection through a K-N95 mask. The worst of it came with those lengthy bids in front of my computer screen.
In the midst of it all, I still managed to publish one of many pieces of literature through my company. The book is titled Dad and Me. The idea was conceived in January of 2021, and the first words were written on a train leaving New York City. I spent more time commuting than I did sleeping. I would probably say this experience stretched me further than a single parent caring for a newborn child. I was forced to shift my perspective constantly. After all, teaching two groups in-person and remotely raised questions around my desire to teach.
This moment required a great deal of discipline from me. My students were a priority at the time and planning my wedding was also a priority. Discipline meant having an action plan that was reasonable and executing in a way that did not hammer away at my physical and emotional strength. I wanted this book to exist, but rushing through the process was unacceptable, so I paced myself. The job required more time than I expected – and in some ways forced a hold on my marketing plans.
In hindsight – the entire process from start to finish panned out only six months. I celebrated big time, because I overcame more than publishing a single book. Since then, I have created a start to finish book writing program for aspiring authors, The Writer’s Run. This program is available to anyone who is a self-starter and ready to find their footing as an author.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Initially, much of my business capitol came from my teaching salary. To date, I have been able to pivot from this source with revenue generated from our publishing services. Patrici Publishing welcomes prospective donors to join the tribe. Learn more about how to become a donor on our website.
