We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christella Taylor a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christella, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
How did Stella Bella came to be, well it was simply not ever finding the right ingredients for my skin type and the lifestyle I wanted to live. I’ve always struggled with acne and dark spots and tried every company out there but nothing ever seems to work permanently. So I started making face mask for myself because I workout a lot so I would be breaking out all over my face. Then I went natural and my hair was very dry even after using multiple products everyday. So then that began my journey of hair oil. Then I also, wanted my roots into my journey too. As a Haitian, in my culture Castro Oil fixed everything from cuts, fever, beauty and so on. Then when I had my son, he was struggling with rashes all the time and the doctors could never give me an answer to the problem, as difficult and frustrating as it was became a blessing and to the birth of Stella Bella. As a mom the safety of our child is the most challenging so I wanted products not only safe for me and my child, but is also very beneficial for our skin too in order to heal.

My name is Christella Taylor, I am the owner of Stella Bella. I am also a mother of a beautiful little boy Dj who’s 3 yrs old. He is my motivation and inspiration to keep thriving on days I feel like giving up. As a business owner, I do tend to face many challenges because everything is on me. From making the products, inventory, packaging and shipping, but I just think it’s just temporary struggles for future success. Some of the products Stella Bella carries are Body Butter, body oils, hair oils, feminine washes, body washes and soaps. The thing that sets me apart from others is I truly want everyone is uses my products to feel good about their skin and themselves. Beauty is truly skin deep and Stella Bella is just the surface in the enhancement process.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Since starting Stella Bella, the story that I always think of to keep me going, one of my coworkers bought some hair oils from me and was using it for a few weeks, then decided to buy some for the whole family when she noticed it was working. Then one day a few weeks later I got a message from Facebook from her crying and thanking me for giving her sister back to her. Her sister was diagnosed with alopecia, and lost most of her hair and doctors told her she wouldn’t have hair again, but after using the hair growth serum after 3 weeks she had a fro. She was gaining her confident back. So that story made me feel good about my business because that’s always my mission to change and make people feel good about them selves.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
The best marketing tips I’ve learned is to just be yourself and be true to who you are and your audience will come. Cause I too still struggle on what’s the right marketing tools to use. I just figured education is key and I don’t like public speaking, but my goals and missions is greater than myself so that’s the marketing tools I have been using.
