Christan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I started my marketing studio in the parking lot of my old agency, the day I was fired. That same day I reached out to all my contact to let them know I was starting my own shop and to connect me with anyone they knew needed any marketing direction.
One of the people I reached out to was a former employer and he just so happened to refer me to his family friend. This became my very first client. And 6 years later, I’m still here lol
Christan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I run THRSHLD which is a marketing studio. I received my undergrad degree in Marketing at Alabama A&M but this was before the world of digital marketing, as we now know it, existed. Early in my career I cut my teeth as a sells person which eventually landed me in a position to learn deeply about SEM, SEO and paid social.
Fast forwarded a few years, after working with multiple agencies in paid media, I launched THRSHLD. This studio allows me to mix and blend my love for the art and science of marketing, creating a unique marketing consultancy to our clients.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I initially started my company to not be everything I knew agencies to be. I quickly learned I didn’t have the capital for that and I had to identify the things I love about marketing and not define myself by the things I didn’t like.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One of my biggest clients to date is in the beauty consumer package goods(CPG) industry which was and still may be considered antiquated. Having legacy brands think outside of their typical strategy is difficult but instead of yelling at them I held their hand and walked them through the cost/benefit of every strategy I was purposing. This was more time consuming but was I created buy-in and my strategies were approved, we experienced market share growth beyond our projections!
