We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christa Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Christa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The legacy I long to leave behind revolves around faith, leading with compassion and generational wealth.
When I leave this Earth at my appointed time I believe people will remember me for the positivity I bring to every space I’m in and my love for ALL people.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi there, I’m Christa Ross! I’m a journalist at heart, but I do all things media. From photography, videography, social media management, content creation, or creative direction, media and communications is my passion, Right now, I’m a Digital Content Producer at a news station, where I help create content that helps the station stay connected with our digital audience. I work closely with our news team to put together social media posts and content that keep the Savannah community updated and informed with just a tap or notification on their phone.
I got started in journalism back in 2019, and I haven’t looked back since. Outside of that, I do run a platform called Life with Christa J, where I share positive stories about Black life, lifestyle content, and discuss what it’s like navigating life as young adult woman who’s devoted to God.
I am most proud of my service in the Georgia Air National Guard as a public affairs specialist and my work with several major companies like the NBA, Florida Citrus Sports, and Boys and Girls Clubs of America.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by my faith in God first and secondly, my passion for bringing ideas to life. As someone who truly enjoys the art of storytelling, I approach every project with the goal of telling a meaningful story that resonates with people. Whether it’s to evoke emotion or share a message, I want my projects to connect with different audiences in a way that leaves an impact.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn is worrying about likes, numbers and what people will say. As a content creator and creative I found myself I criticizing my work too harshly and caring too much about what people think about content I felt led to create. I had to learn that as a creative if you feel led to post something and share something that God has an audience curated just for you that is waiting on you to share what has been placed on your heart. It doesn’t matter if you have 1,000,000 followers or 1,500 followers put your best into your content and post it regardless of what you think people may say, there’s someone out there who’s waiting on what you have to share.
