Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christa Holland. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Christa , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I got my cosmetology license in high school. I always knew that was my passion. I went to college and got my degree in social work found out that I wasn’t a fan of cooperate America or the politics of social work after working in the field for a few years. I knew where my heart was and where I could be happy. That was in the natural hair space and helping woman with textured hair feel safe and seen. I left Virginia and moved to Miami to pursue this dream. I t was hard and I fought so hard to gain more skills and perfect my craft. Fast forward a few short years later I have a booming clientele and my own salon space. Took the risk and it paid off resulting in me making 6 figures a year on my own

Christa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am the owner and Lead cosmetologist of my company Zuri Noire Unlimited. I specialize in natural hair and locs and pride myself on curating a luxurious professional experience for my clients. My mission is to provide a safe space for men and women with textured hair to be seen and heard and to understand that their kinks and coils and beautiful despite ridicule and stereotypes. I am proud to break the stigma of “black hairstylist” being rude, unprofessional and dismissive. I take time with my clients to learn their hair but also listen to their concerns and show them that I care. Currently the bulk of my clients have locs and at first I didn’t like that. But as time went on I realized that I was going against my mission creating a safe space for textures. When I honed in on what God was presenting to me my business expanded exponentially. I am so grateful and can’t wait to welcome all the new faces to my “Tribe” and expand my sanctuary (salon) to more than the dream can ever imagine

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
That all money isn’t good money. I’ve been taken advantage of by Clients. I am very nice and understanding but I’ve encountered some very inconsiderate people. I had to learn to set boundaries and stand behind my policies that I have in place and things started to go in my favor.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Transparency. What you see is how I am with my closest family and friends. Who I am and how I run my business is no fluff , no show, I am really this genuine of a persons. I lead with integrity and love. I love to be honest with clients in regards to their haircare and my biggest thing is to educate them so moving forward they will feel confident to make educated decisions in regards to their hair journey
