We were lucky to catch up with Chrissy Stewart recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chrissy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
As a photographer and business owner of Studio 95 Photography, I have embraced various risks in my creative pursuit to capture compelling moments. Being a woman-owned business in a competitive industry, I took the leap to establish my brand and carve out a niche for myself. From investing in high-quality equipment to experimenting with innovative techniques, each decision carried potential risks but also opened doors to new opportunities. Stepping outside my comfort zone, I delved into collaborations and projects that challenged my skills, helping me grow both personally and professionally. Through the risks I have taken, I have not only expanded my photography portfolio but also strengthened my resolve as a resilient and passionate business owner.
Chrissy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey, y’all! My name is Chrissy Stewart, and I am a creative photographer. I have been taking photos for over 16 years as a hobby, but I didn’t make it into a career until about 2 years ago, and I have never looked back! As a photographer, my work is driven by my passion for capturing life in the moment, and I love exploring new ideas and trying new techniques. Whether experimenting with different lighting setups, playing with composition, or just trying out a unique editing style, I always look for ways to push myself and my work to the next level. I believe photography is about appreciating the small things in life and documenting them forever.
Photography is a true calling/passion that I have, so I do not see “struggles” as actual struggles. One thing I have learned about the photography business is that it is very competitive. That said, I am always continuing my education in photography and growing my skill set to stay on top of the game. I am a member of the Professional Photographers of America, and I am on my way to becoming a Certified Professional Photographer. Photography has been a smooth road for me, with only minor “speed bumps” along the way.
I am a natural light-chasing photographer based out of the Carolinas. Connecting with people and capturing real, raw emotions is what I love. I want you to feel happiness, love, and every feel-good emotion possible when you look at your photos after our session! My sessions are laid back, just like me, and take place in my new up-and-coming studio, your home, or one of the awesome outdoor locations around us. (I love chasing natural light, by the way). You may wonder why I offer so many different sessions & photography types. I offer a variety of sessions & photography types because my work is about connecting and doing what I love! Connecting with you & your family! That’s also why about 95% of my clients return later for additional sessions! My goal is to become your everything go-to photographer, whether you’re starting a family, getting married, starting a business, or doing all of the above!
The most important lesson I have learned along my journey is that photography is forever changing & I need to continue to educate myself on all the different styles and techniques. Everyone is different, and no photo shoot is ever the same.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
When it comes to growing our clientele at Studio 95 Photography, one of the most effective strategies has been utilizing the creative power of social media. We have found that by consistently sharing our friendly and engaging posts, we not only showcase the stunning work we can capture but also establish a strong connection with our audience. Through these platforms, we can reach a broader range of potential clients and build a community around our passion for photography. By staying active on social media and consistently sharing our work, we have been able to steadily grow our clientele while fostering a welcoming and friendly online presence that resonates with our audience.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the opportunity to capture moments and emotions through photography. As the founder of Studio 95 Photography, I am constantly immersed in the creative process of bringing visions to life behind the lens. The ability to share a piece of my heart and grow as an artist while spreading love and kindness through my work is truly fulfilling and rewarding. Creating art not only allows me to express my creativity but also connect with others on a deeper level. The friendly interactions and positive impact that my work can have on people’s lives make every moment spent being creative oh so rewarding.
