We were lucky to catch up with Chrissy Cavotta recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chrissy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Success is a choice. I always used to say that I was a “motivated” person. But now I realize that motivation can be a transient and fleeting feeling. Dedication is what truly breeds success. Being relentlessly committed to your craft is what is going to make you stand out in a crowd, no matter what industry you are in. When I first started in the events business and held my very first fashion show, I had around 40 people in attendance. Without years of perseverance and diligence I could have never arrived where I stand today.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My desire to start a business first came from my love for fashion. I would constantly get asked where I purchased my outfits from, and I decided it would make sense to open up my own clothing store. I had managed multiple retail stores while I was in college, and upon college graduation I decided to take a leap of faith. In August of 2011, Tre Sorelle Boutique opened up in Little Italy Cleveland. Shortly after, I began producing Fashion Show all across the Cleveland area.
My proudest accomplishment is that I have been able to give other creatives a platform to showcase their skills and talents including local models, designers, photographers, DJs and performers. The feeling of collaborating with like minded individuals is unmatched.
I want it to be known that Tre Sorelle Events may be popular for their fashion shows, but we are capable of orchestrating events of all types.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
This is such a fantastic question and I have an even more fantastic answer. YES.
I closed Tre Sorelle Boutique in 2018 when I felt that the era of in-person shopping was quickly coming to an end. It is nearly impossible to compete with “Add to cart, deliver to doorstep.” After my shop closed permanently, I made the change from Tre Sorelle Boutique to Tre Sorelle Events. The focus was no longer on selling clothing, but now turned into hosting theme parties and fashion shows. This was working out seamlessly, until the pandemic. In 2020, I decided it was time to get back into the work force full time and got into Property Management, which is a decision I am beyond grateful that I made. Now three years later, I am still in the same industry and my events have become a passion project that I do on the side. Sometimes things work out exactly how they are supposed to.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
Be a leader, not a dictator. Treat everyone with respect. Stay cool, calm and collected even in the most taxing situations. Show up and follow up. Always be pragmatic in your decision making. Self-awareness is crucial, be as cognizant and conscious as possible. Keep the energy high and uplifted, and it will spread like wildfire throughout your entire team.
