We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chrissy Bernal a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chrissy, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump into the story of starting your own firm – what should we know?
Since starting my own agency, I’ve learned many lessons. If I had to start over again, there are three things I would do differently. 1. Gain clarity on my messaging, my offer, and my vision
2. Stop undervaluing my services
3. Work with a business coach right away
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
After accidentally ending up in the global spotlight for my unique identical twins, I was forced to create & grow a brand on the fly. I knew we needed to harness the power of the publicity they were getting. Fast forward 15 years, and now by combining my formal education with the real-world knowledge gained from my family’s growth toward global brand awareness, I have a deep understanding of how to help brands clearly communicate their stories, increase their influence & reduce the chaos experienced in the journey of being known.
I guide my clients through proven frameworks that help them gain clarity and feel confident about their next steps, and I use strategic PR to help them gain brand awareness and establish authority.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Something I had to unlearn revolved around my sense of worth.
Particular events in my life caused me to lose sight of my worth and my vision. Because I didn’t embrace my worth, it was challenging even to paint a vision.
I remember always feeling so jumbled and constantly operating from a desperation mindset. Now that I’m clear about who I am, what I’m passionate about, and what difference I want to make, I feel so much more focused.
And I want to help other women feel the same way.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source for new clients has been word of mouth. I am big on establishing relationships with clients, and my clients have tended to work with me for years. They often refer people to me, and because I’ve used PR to establish authority, it reinforces their recommendation.
