We recently connected with Chris Wells and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
I’d like to start by saying that I regret absolutely nothing. While there’s been a ton of blood, sweat, and tears, I wouldn’t trade my journey for anything in the world. With that said, one of my favorite sayings is, “Slow equals smooth, and smooth equals fast.” If I were to do it all over again, I would take my time and really lower the barrier to help as many people as possible. I wouldn’t charge or worry about being compensated for my work at first. I would spend as much time and as many hours as possible honing my coaching skills in exchange for collecting testimonials and proof along the way. Essentially, more farming and less hunting.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I founded my company in 2011 with a diligent pursuit of reaching tens of millions of people around the world—yes, tens of millions of people. I grew up in a community where health awareness was not prevalent. I witnessed my family members and elders in the community getting very sick at an early age. Being susceptible to chronic illness was very common, and to me and my community, this was normal.
After completing culinary school, I moved to California and cooked in some of the most prestigious kitchens in San Francisco. One night, on my way home after a long and tiring shift, something prompted me to pull over, pull out my smartphone, and proceed to sign up for a personal trainer certification. Within nine months, I was out of the kitchen and in a gym. My increased knowledge of health helped me understand that I was mostly a product of my choices in life. Once I became privy to this, I couldn’t wait to set off and share this newfound perspective with the world.
I moved on from working at big box gyms, where I witnessed practices and processes that I didn’t align with, to a private boutique gym of my own. In this environment, I have been able to use my own philosophy and help clients get off prescription meds, become more confident in the kitchen, reduce chronic inflammation, feel empowered and in control of their lives, and most importantly, help them live longer and be there for their loved ones.
From day one, our number one objective is to solidify a foundation of six pillars:
Mindset
Hydration
Sleep Hygiene
Nutrition
Breathing
Movement
Our clients go through three phases:
Phase 1: In this phase, clients work with their programming until they finally get it right, which typically takes 16-24 weeks.
Phase 2: Here, clients have solidified most of the habitual change process and focus on working on things until they never get it wrong. We also incorporate more mental and emotional work into this phase.
Phase 3: In this phase, clients have arrived at a new identity and require ongoing tools to continue growing into the highest and best version of themselves.
One of the most rewarding parts of this process is observing our clients develop a newfound love and interest in learning about themselves. Developing their own Philosophy.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I was convinced that you could only have one or the other: quality time with your loved ones or a successful and impactful business. I believed I would have to sacrifice everything for my business to thrive. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of sacrifices, but what I have come to realize is that you can still have both. T. Harv Eker, in his book “Secrets of the Millionaire Mind,” does a great job explaining the fact that you can have both if you want. You don’t have to settle for one or the other. It took a while for me to unlearn this, but I’m thankful for the mentors I’ve had in my life who have challenged me not to settle. You can have both.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
After a few years of reflection, I recently decided to offer private chef meal prep services for clients who really need support in the kitchen. The results have been nothing short of amazing. Our clients feel much more confident about the oils, ingredients, and containers they are using, which has only increased overall adherence in the nutrition department of Filosofitness.
