We recently connected with Chris Vita and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I’ve been living in Nashville for around seven years now, and let me tell you, it’s been a wild ride! I’ve had some incredible experiences and met some awesome people along the way. But there’s one thing that really stands out for me: songwriting. About two years ago, it hit me how much I absolutely love it. My buddies Cody Atkins and Justin Bryan have really helped me, and together we’ve created some really good music. Finally, after five years in this town, I got the chance to record my own music. Thanks to my buddy and producer, Jake Loban, for helping me bring my musical vision to life. We’ve been working hard with some of the most talented musicians in town for the past year or so, and I can’t wait to share it all with you guys! The excitement is real, and I can’t wait to release my music for everyone to hear.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a singer/songwriter from Anderson, South Carolina. Music has always fascinated me since I was a kid. I started playing the piano when I was around 6 or 7 years old, and later, at 16, I picked up the guitar. I used to feel nervous about performing or playing in front of others, but everything changed when I went to Edisto Beach, SC. I was with my best friend Parker and our parents, and they encouraged me to sing and play. That moment ignited a passion within me, and I couldn’t get enough of it! At 19, I took a trip to Nashville to record some songs. It turned out that a friend I met there was working at the open mic night at Tootsies Orchid Lounge. The day before I was supposed to leave, I went and sang at the open mic. To my surprise, the owner was there and offered me a job on the spot! I went back to South Carolina and shared the news with my parents. They supported my decision and thanks to them, my journey in Nashville began. I’ve had some amazing people guide me through my first few years in town. Some my favorite people in the world Kevin “Swine” Grantt and Robby Turner really helped me sort out the bad and find my way. A few years ago, I had the honor of supporting Robby at a benefit concert to raise funds for his recovery from a car accident. It was an incredible experience to share the stage with country music stars like Chris Stapleton, Jamey Johnson, Jessi Colter, James Otto, Mo Pitney, and others. This event truly highlighted the significance of support from friends and family in life!
My parents have been my rock throughout my musical journey, and I owe everything to them. Without their love and support, I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish anything.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Being a singer is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world. My goal is to make people feel the way I do when I hear a good song. When I listen to a Merle Haggard or George Jones song, I really feel the hurt/joy in their voice. And I really understand and connect with the lyrics. That’s my goal with my music.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I know that the music industry is completely different from what it used to be when it comes to selling songs. But the most important thing you can do to help, is share the music you like! Whether it’s big artists or your local band! Like they say sharing is caring!
