We were lucky to catch up with Chris Vincent recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear your thoughts about family businesses.
2 of my 3 children are in my business now. While I love them being involved, I get worried sometimes that they are in it because they think I expect it rather than them pursuing their calling and passions. I enjoy working with them and creating that bond but it also makes it extremely hard to not talk about work when we are together away from the business.
One of my good friends in high school took over his fathers business upon graduation and has now really taken it to another level. His brothers work there as well as other members of the family. I know it can be very stressful but I also think it sets up the next generation for success as long as the kids are willing to put in the work.

Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
For those who haven’t met you yet, tell us more about your story — how you got into this line of work, what your business offers, and what makes it stand out.
I’m Chris Vincent, and I run Perfection Lawn & Landscape out of Greenville, Kentucky. I didn’t grow up dreaming of owning a landscaping company — it started as a side gig. I was working in manufacturing, mowing a few yards in the evenings and on weekends to make extra money. Then in 2009, I got laid off.
At the time, it felt like a punch to the gut. I had a young family to support, and suddenly my steady paycheck was gone. I had to figure something out fast. That little mowing side hustle became my full-time job — not because I had a grand plan, but because I had no other choice.
Looking back, that moment was the start of everything. I went all in. Learned by doing. Made mistakes. Worked long days. Slowly, the business started to grow. I realized I didn’t just want to get by — I wanted to build something great. Something I could be proud of. Something others would be proud to be part of.
Today, we’re a full-service outdoor living company. We design and build high-end patios, retaining walls, lighting, landscapes — the works. We also provide property maintenance services. What we really do, though, is create outdoor spaces that people love to spend time in. And we make the process stress-free and professional from start to finish.
What kind of services do you offer, and what problems are you solving for your clients?
We offer design-build services for outdoor living areas — patios, walkways, walls, lighting, landscaping — along with full-service property maintenance for both residential and commercial clients.
Most of our clients are busy people who want great results without all the usual headaches. A lot of them have dealt with no-shows, vague pricing, poor communication, or projects that drag on forever. We fix that.
We bring structure and professionalism to the process. Clear estimates, clean timelines, solid communication, and a team that follows through. We use tools like SynkedUP and CompanyCam to stay organized and keep everyone in the loop — including the client.
What sets you apart from other businesses in your industry?
For us, it’s about more than landscaping. We’re building a team and a culture that holds itself to a higher standard. We don’t take shortcuts, and we don’t make excuses. We believe in doing what we say we’re going to do — every single time.
Our company runs on values like Passion, Extreme Ownership, Resilience, Faith, and Team First Mentality. These aren’t posters on a wall — we talk about them every day. We hire based on them. We make decisions based on them.
We’re also big believers in systems, tracking, and continuous improvement. That’s what allows us to deliver consistent quality and grow the business without sacrificing what makes us special.
Right now, we’re just over $1M in annual revenue — but we’re building for something much bigger. Our sights are set on $10M+, and we’re putting the right people, processes, and culture in place to get there.
What are you most proud of?
Honestly, I’m proud that we’ve built something real from the ground up — no handouts, no shortcuts. I’m proud of the team we’ve developed. I’m proud that we’ve created a company where people feel valued and want to grow.
But more than anything, I’m proud that we’ve stayed true to who we are. This business reflects my faith, my values, and the lessons I’ve learned through the hard times. That layoff in 2009 felt like the worst thing in the world — but God used it to set me on a path I never saw coming. I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
What should people know about you and your brand moving forward?
We’re not your average landscape company. If you want cheap, fast, and “just get it done,” we’re probably not for you. But if you want a team that cares, communicates, and delivers work you’ll be proud of for years to come — we’re your people.
We’re also growing. Fast. We’re evolving into Perfection Outdoor Living because that name better reflects where we’re headed. Our goal is to become the go-to company in our region for premium outdoor living spaces — and to build a team of A-players who grow as the company grows.
At the end of the day, this is about more than landscaping. It’s about building something that honors God, supports families, creates opportunity, and leaves a legacy. That’s what drives me — and that’s what Perfection is all about.

Do you have any stories of times when you almost missed payroll or any other near death experiences for your business?
There has been a lot of those moments. There are lots of times when my employees got paid but I didn’t. We have never failed to pay someone though. That’s something to be proud of. When you hire someone you take responsibility for that person and their family. It’s a huge load to carry.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We have always tried to do the right thing. Even if it meant we lost money. We try to do the simple things with excellence. As we have grown, communication with customers has grown harder as most of my original customers still want to call my personal cell phone. I try to answer but I now have so many meetings and obligations, it is hard to answer those calls or respond in a timely manner. We now have an office text line and encourage customers to call or text the office to get better and faster service. I will probably always have those few customers that still call e and that’s ok. I am grateful they have stuck with us for so long!
