We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Turner. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.
Chris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
My mission, is to make sure I can touch as many people/veterans through song as I possibly can. Music is a type of healing and a great therapeutic outlet. As a veteran, we will never Stop 22 but if if I can Stop 1, I did my job!!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was raised in Ninety Six, SC. It’s a small farm town with two red lights, a Hardee’s, a Piggly Wiggly, and Friday Night Dootball.
I started writing poems/songs as a teenager as an outlet. It was something I needed. Every song I heard always seemed like it was talking to me. I grew up with what I needed but never with what I wanted; specifically a guitar. So I joined the United States Marine Corps at 19. I bought my first guitar from my barracks mate and he taught me 3 chords. After that it was off to the races.
While in the Corps, all I could think about was my exit date so I could load up and move to Nashville to start my journey. I’ve been here now 14 years and have done things unimaginable such as write songs with some of my biggest hero songwriters as well as open shows for some of my hero’s I grew up listening too. I for one can say, “If you can conceive, you can achieve it”.
If there is one thing I’d love for my fans to know it’s “thank you for all the support and keep showing up”.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was booked to open for Cody Johnson one night in Augusta, Ga. Drove from Nashville to Augusta and there was no budget for us to play, cost of doing business. After the show, Cody walked up to me and asked if I got paid. I replied, “No.. We were playing for merch sales and he pulled out 5-100 dollar bills and told me to go pay my guys. Coolest guy in the industry.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
The initial capital for my career essentially came from my savings and family members. The thing about Nashville is that they want you to build your business and then they want to acquire it. Which in my opinion is great business sense but as an Independent artist, days can get long and dark trying to build a career in the entertainment industry when it’s built solely off of liquid assets.
