We were lucky to catch up with Chris (Tracmuzik) Thomas recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chris (Tracmuzik) thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I knew I wanted to pursue being a music producer as a career when I realized I was great at mimicking other music I heard on the radio and albums when I was in 8th grade. My parents had a church with instruments, I played the drums since I was 3. My dad was a bass player and my mom played the keyboard. I had a huge interest in the music I was listening to, the different sounds that caught my attention. I started out copying other producers music just to challenge myself to see if could do exactly what they did. That right there was a 80% hit 20% miss, However I became good at it. After becoming comfortable doing that I told myself “ let’s see what I can come up with myself “. As time passed I started creating my own instrumentals, taking notes from other producers work and remained consistent. Many people I let hear my tracks and they was in love with the creativity I put out. The moment I made $500 dollars in 9th grade from a artist that only wanted to check out my beats on my cassette tape back then, that’s when I realized I wanted to make a career out of producing.
Chris (Tracmuzik), before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m 39 years of age, I play multiple instruments, Drums, bass, keyboard and a very little guitar. I’m a producer, truck driver and a barber. What good me into the field I’m in was me making music at home and people my family knew hearing about me. Family hearing me play and my production lead to their friends hearing me. Basically word of mouth which lead to opportunities of studio time and gigs.
I provide music production to those were interested in my production.
One thing I’m most proud of is the quality of my work I’ve put out after hard dedication of consistent grinding. The smiles and the excitement of my clients when they buy my production. That alone let’s me know I’m doing something right. Lol
To all my fans, friends, followers I appreciate you all!! Know that I’m still out here on a consistent grind when it comes to this music production.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn being content. With time there comes growth, and you have to learn to adapt to change. Staying in one spot with have you left behind in the music industry.. I know because I was that person that was getting left behind because I stuck to my era times in music. I had to do a firmware update on my thought process.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The respect from people. What I do is not easy. You definitely have to have a desire and passion for music.
