We recently connected with Chris Thomas and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
The legacy I would hope to have built with my never give up steadfast attitude. I would hope that others would remember me as a solid tattoo artist .who helped many get to the next level by sharing any and all knowledge that I have learned along the way . . A Truth teller, a realist , someone that found a way to make it all work. In an ever growing and highly competitive industry of tattoo.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Started tattooing in 1997 working studio to studio trying to find my way. All the while gathering knowledge whether it be good or bad from each stop along the way. picking up techniques of the trade that would keep me a solid choice your next piece of permanent art. Hitting tattoo convention circuit as early as 2002 and networking and tattooing With shameless
self promotion. I have kept going to this day.
Picking up not only tattoo techniques but learning many art mediums along the way
From oil painting, to creating a couple of tattoo flash sets. I have always been very creative and loved learning things that peeked my interest.making something from nothing and having other show interest is always a great feeling. Another reason I feel like a well rounded artist/ creative.
In 2006 i was able to create what is now the golden lotus tattoo studio and now 17 years later here we are.
One of the central Arkansas’ most recognized tattoo studio.
Some of my personal accomplishments from
Creating award winning tattoos cost to coast , and tattoos appearing in multi tattoo publications over the years and I have even made a tv appearance as a featured artist on “Inkmaster angels” tattoo series on paramount Network.
I do any and all styles of tattooing
If you were to ask me what I specialize in a would say solid tattoos.
And yes i do a lot of black and grey tattoo for the most part at this time in my career. The client has shaped me over the years asking for my larger flowing , wispy, smooth shades of black and grey lots of sleeve work. It has a look a style and it keeps me busy and I have a blast doing it. It would fall in the style of illustrative black and grey … it is bold
My beautiful wife Joy Thomas keeps me grounded and has made me a more rounded person which has translated into the positive flow and direction of our studio.
I am an artist , a creative , a person that has some some how figured out how to make a living drawing little pictures permanently on people. And as long as the you the client keeps coming to get tattooed and I will keep showing up to do the damn thing.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Facebook and Instagram with in conjunction with the simple easy to navigate website. Kinda goes hand in hand. I try and stay with the shamless self promotion approach.
Staying on top of all of them equally with reels, stories , and standard post.
showing the consistency in the works of art and staying relevant in the eyes of Clients no matter their choice of social media.
Giving the client a reason to check you out.
You never know what makes the next client jump in your direction.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being a resilient person making sure that we are very consistent in every aspect of the business.
One of the most effective methods I would say it getting everyone that works under the roof to be on the same page.
Examples everyone saying the similar methods to aftercare.
Everyone one the same page with the way we approach and discuss tattoo ideas with Clients.
Trying to never step on the other guy/gals toes.
Nothing worse than 3 people telling people 3 different things it will cause a very complicated and confusing work situation and it will make the business itself look very disorganized.
Staying very consistent inevery aspect. From promotion to consistent hours of operation and and prompt email and messaging response
