We were lucky to catch up with Chris Smith recently and have shared our conversation below.

Chris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?

I’ve created Heat My Words, a channel that reviews spicy food from around the world. I would like to show you how different cultures embrace spicy food differently, all in the comfort of your own home.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I’m Chris, the founder of Heat My Words. Josh (Cameraman) and I explore the world showcasing great food. We’re different because we focus on the spicy side of life. Chris also participates in the Spicy Food Challenge and has been known to win a few competitions. No matter where you are in the world, you are able to find some levels of spice. It’s great to learn more about cultures and countries and how they’re all so different through their food.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?

Value your own time. What is your hourly rate? This can’t be zero btw.! Then if there’s someone that can do what you’re doing better/cheaper then hire them. Getting Josh was one of the best decisions made, he does all my filming and editing, which allows me to focus on research, content and being the best I can do. You can’t do everything!

How’d you meet your business partner?

I met Josh through a football club I was running, we were looking for someone to film and edit the games and found Josh through Facebook. You need to make sure there’s chemistry outside of your job, do you like talking to each other? Can you hang out? You will spend more time with this person than your friends, wife, husband etc.. times will be tough and you need someone that can challenge you.
