Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chris Shields. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I have made a living from my creative work. How I made this happen is I made sure I got an education to back up my natural raw talent. I also made sure that I constantly maintain a desire to go after my craft. Where desire is compensation will always be met. People will pay to see someone’s heart on display especially if it is ministered with excellence. I pride myself on bring this kind of effort to the table which has allowed me to earn compensation in my craft full time. It was not like that from day one but as I grew and developed more, I was able to put a greater demand on my craft. I am very thankful for the journey because oftentimes people lose their heart when they began getting compensated how they desire to. Your heart is the key component to continued development if you lose heart you have lost your craft. Again, I am very thankful for my journey toward compensation in my craft.
Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the industry when I was kid. When I began to see the potential in others but seeing them not necessarily go after it as they should. I began to encourage people while giving them a new perspective to help them get to their objective.
My goal in everything I do is to get you to think outside the box which will provoke you to think in a way you have never thought before. That then unlocking you to live in your full potential. We live in a world where few know their identity. When you learn how to think properly you begin to live rightfully in your potential.
What sets me apart is my willingness to make a point to connect with people. It doesn’t just gain me their ear but it gains me their heart to help them come into the fullness of who they are called to be.
The main thing I want people to know about me is I love them and want the best for them. I want them to be the best version of themself.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Overcoming a No. Oftentimes you will be judged where you are at the moment not on the potential of who you can become. When you have a dream and you know it is your dream you hold on to it until it happens. Throughout my life there have been many people that have told me I couldn’t achieve the things that I have. But because I didn’t allow rejection to be my narrative I was able to overcome and exceed my expectations of what I could accomplish. When you hear no use it as motivation that will transform the no into a yes. Growth doesn’t always come in the form of a yes it oftentimes comes in the form of a no. Use your no as growth, not as an excuse to stop. If you’re not growing you’re not living. Always look for a reason to live and looking for a reason to live is always looking for a reason to grow. “Champions are not those that never fail but those that never quit.”- Edwin Louis Cole Never quit, never give up, always keep going. You never know who is on the other side of your decision not to give up. Your decision could be life or death for someone else. Always choose life and always choose to keep going.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is seeing the life transformation that happens in people’s lives. Seeing them accomplish things they never thought they would. Seeing them partner with people they thought they would never be able to. What better way to live life. If you are only living life for yourself, you truly have yet to live. The moment you know you have started living is when you can see the impact you have had on someone else.
