We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Sebastian. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.
Chris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen?
This has evolved over the years. This is where learning and practicing a range of different skills has its benefits. throughout my career I have earned, and am an earning revenue from releasing music, writing, recoding and producing for other artists and companies, sync, performing live. content creation of social media platforms, endorsement and advertising through social media as well. There are so many opportunities for creatives now so it all comes down to how much you’re willing to work.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was born Into a family that loved music, my older brothers were and are my heroes and because they sang, I did too. I started singing in Church and then school and that lead to public gigs and eventually TV. In 2020 I won The Voice Australia and have been releasing music since that time. I have been doing this for a long time and something I worked out at least where I am from and for the audiences I perform for is that its really not about how many tricks you can do, or how high you can sing. those things entertain for a short time but making people feel something. turning a concert into a movie. Those are my objectives now.
iv loved telling stories my entire life so now I tell them through the songs I write and release. Ultimately I want to leave people feeling better after hearing or encountering my music.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I won The Voice Australia in 2020….. during a global pandemic. which meant no touring, no live shows. releasing music was very difficult and I felt so trapped. I built up all this momentum and although I tried to keep it going without being able to do the normal things you do in that scenario it was difficult. I parted ways with the label and even though there were low points through out that season im out the other side with as much drive and passion as iv ever had, the story hasn’t gone the way I planned and while iv taken the scenic route im more sure than ever that the best days of my career lie ahead.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
following trends. This took me longer to unlearn than im proud of but for a really long time I wrote music that I thought people wanted to hear rather than the music I was passionate about making. Even on social media I would research trending songs and themes and try deasand implement those things in my content and im not saying that is a bad thing but I think only doing those things is where creativity goes to die. I dont think there is anything wrong with being conscious of trends and finding ways to work them into your content but as creatives we cannot limit ourselves by them
