We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Robles. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Back in 2019 I was living in South Central Los Angeles, CA and although i was having a great expereince I felt like I wasn’t progressing as fast as I wanted to in my career. I had always thought about the idea of starting a business but I wasn’t entirely sure what it iwas that I wanted to do. I didn’t see clear career growth in the organization i was currently at and I didn’t want to keep letting time go by. I knew that the taco scene in my homestate of Maryland was nothing compared to Los Angeles and so I said to my self it would be a good decision to go back and launch a taco business before it gets too saturated and so that its what I did. I am sure I could have started sooner and gotten more experience under my belt but I cannot complain. I was able to the things I wanted to do in LA and not feel like I missed out on an opportunity. I evaluated the market I was entering and determined it would be a good idea to start then. I think you can enter the market at any time it is all about how you identify your business. Sure, timing can also determine how in favor certain opportunites can be for you but at the end of the day you will create your own path. Entering the market right now can be a good and bad decision. Make sure you have a business plan to justify. For me specifically I knew entering the market back then was good for my timeline.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Trippy Tacos started as a food truck back in the summer of 2019. In the summer of 2022 we opened our first brick and mortar location. We continue to operate our food truck, we have expanded our menu, and provide catering services as well. We specialize in making fresh handmade corn tortillas for every taco and our Trippy Nachos have been awarded the best nachos in the state of Maryland by Mashed.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Not having our own commissary kitchen was limiting our growth. This is when i decided we needed our own brick and mortar so we can fulfill more client request. This change was not easy but with hard work and dedication we have been able to grow as a business,
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I firmly believe you do not need to have money to start a business. I did not have the capital necessary to start my business but I knew loans exists. Thanks to the SBA I was able to obtain a loan to start Trippy Tacos.
