We recently connected with Chris Quinn and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
One of the biggest trends that I am seeing right now in my industry is shooting video vertically vs. horizontally and how the length of content keeps becoming shorter and shorter; with social media being at the forefront of brand marketing these days, shooting high-budget commercials even though it is still a big deal has now come head to head with shooting on an iPhone. There have been many shoots where a company has hired us, and we have had to adjust to filming all the content vertically so it is used for social purposes and is of the highest quality. It seems as if it’s a domino effect where if one brand does it, another follows and another one, and before you know it, it’s the new industry standard until someone makes videos shorter and faster-paced.

Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Chris Quinn, and I have been a videographer/photographer for around five years. Taking a class during my senior year of high school is what inspired me to begin making videos, and from there, I moved out to California to attend Pepperdine Univerity, where I studied Marketing and Communications and shot videos and photos on the side for fun. I am self-taught from the internet, and an internship I did in college, and I think anyone can be as well if they have the drive. That was one thing instilled in me at a younger age: hard work. After I knew what I wanted to do, I founded my company in 2020, my senior year of college, and have since grown the company year after year. I believe being great to work with, being consistent, and being quick in delivering content have set me apart from others. In this day and age, everyone wants content yesterday, and since I am able to provide that along with the other traits, it forms into someone that brands want to keep coming back to.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One story that comes to mind was from when I was just starting. I initially wanted to get into shooting music, so I would look every weekend to see what artist would be playing in my area and DM anyone and everyone who had a connection to the artist, offering them to shoot their show for free. I sent out probably 100s of these DMs over that time, and eventually, it paid off when I got to shoot a concert for a DJ who I listened to a lot. To me, that was the moment I realized that all it takes is one message or phone call, and you can be connected to the person that you want to connect with. Since then I have still continued to reach out because you never know what can happen.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I believe that communication, planning, and having the ability to problem-solve are the best. These are traits to have when managing a team of people. Communication with co-workers is key. Whether over email, text, call, or face-to-face, being able to clearly and straightly relay information quickly makes meetings and encounters more beneficial. Planning is also key because having an idea is one thing, but having that idea all figured out, written down, and having timing allocated to specific tasks or situations makes things much easier in the long run, so you aren’t always thinking on the spot for something new. Problem-solving is another big one because most of the time, not every situation is going to happen according to all the planning, so having a calm and collected state of mind and knowing it’s going to work out even though it may not be perfect it’s better than getting nothing or making something else happen instead depending don’t he situation.
