We recently connected with Chris Parvin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
In every venture, scaling is a major risk. When we first opened White Rhino Coffee, we were very successful with one location, but I had a strong desire to see us expand. Several trusted friends and family members expressed hesitation because North Texas already has some really solid independent coffee companies. Nonetheless, I had a strong feeling and started opening others. Today, we have 14 open and are continuing to expand. The road hasn’t always been easy but seeing your vision become reality is worth the risk.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Chris Parvin, Founder and CEO of The Parvin Group. TPG is a family office that owns and manages several brands including White Rhino Coffee, Parvin Law Group, Parvin Properties as well as owns interests in several other companies. I’ve long believed that my purpose as a business leader is to give back. That’s why all of these brands share a mission to grow profitably so that we can give back to the Kingdom of God, make the world a better place, and enrich our employees’ lives.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
This is easy – in a world full of excuses and falsehoods, be a person of integrity and your word. Follow the values that people used to follow. Be honest, work hard and follow the path of excellence. It won’t always be easy but if you’re going to dedicate your life to something, you might as well do it with honor and excellence.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
In any business, you’ll face challenges. The hardest for me have been navigating personal challenges while still trying to stay dedicated to my business. A couple of years ago, my wife of over 20 years and I decided to divorce. Like so many families, it was very difficult for our entire family but we knew that we both needed a change. Instead of allowing our situation to get vindictive or nasty, my ex-wife and I decided to stay friends and work through challenges with our kids. At times when I didn’t feel like going to work or accomplishing my goals, I had to rely on my corporate team to make sure we were still moving forward. My only advice: build the right team to go to war with you. Friends, colleagues, family. When things get tough, don’t be shy about admitting it and asking for help. After all, you’re only human and all of us face personal fights.
