Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chris Packert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Emerge ID, an influential and revolutionary training organization, was established in 2018 by its founder, Chris Packert. Packert’s broad and diverse background in education and training across various sectors became the cornerstone of Emerge ID. Before starting the company, he had worked as a high school science teacher, providing him with a foundational understanding of pedagogical principles. He later served as an instructional designer for prestigious organizations such as NASA, the Marine Corps, and various universities. His expertise in designing effective learning experiences was honed during these roles.
Moreover, Packert’s tenure as the Sr. Manager of Coach Development for U.S. Ski & Snowboard further shaped his leadership and coaching abilities. His unique experiences across teaching, instructional design, and leadership roles provided him with a deep understanding of how to tailor training programs to align with an organization’s vision and mission.
His journey toward establishing Emerge ID began when he started receiving requests from several organizations to help them create effective training programs. He initially worked as an independent contractor, and as demand grew, he realized the need for a more organized approach. Consequently, in 2018, he formed Emerge ID, hiring a team of contractors who were then meticulously trained in “The Emerge ID way.”
Ever since its inception, Emerge ID has been committed to helping organizations align their training efforts with their vision and mission, enhancing their overall effectiveness. Packert’s vast experience across various educational and professional fields has been instrumental in defining Emerge ID’s distinctive approach toward organizational training.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From a young age, Chris Packert was always fascinated by the world around him. He had a thirst for knowledge and a passion for learning, which led him to pursue a liberal arts bachelor’s degree at West Virginia University. His plan was to eventually get an MBA and venture into the world of business.
During his college years, Chris enjoyed the academic environment and made the most out of his education. However, fate had other plans for him. After graduating, he found an opportunity that changed the trajectory of his career path. Chris landed a job as a ski instructor in the picturesque mountains of Beaver Creek. This experience ignited a newfound love for teaching and the outdoors.
Realizing that his true calling lay in education, Chris decided to shift gears. He pursued a masters of education in curriculum and instruction while also working for NASA as an instructional designer during his graduate school years. His time at NASA allowed him to combine his passion for teaching with technology, honing his skills as an instructional designer.
After completing his graduate studies, Chris embraced his role as a high school science teacher. He dedicated 11 years of his life to educating and inspiring young minds. His commitment and dedication did not go unnoticed, as he was awarded a full scholarship by the public school system to pursue a second masters degree in Instructional Design and Technology from George Mason University.
Armed with two master’s degrees and a wealth of experience, Chris embarked on a new journey as an instructional designer for various institutions, including the Marine Corps and different universities. But life had more in store for him. Chris’s passion for skiing and snowboarding led him to become the Sr. Manager of Coach Development for U.S. Ski & Snowboard.
In 2018, Chris decided to take the leap and set up his own venture called Emerge ID. He assembled a talented team of LMS Administrators, Curriculum Developers, Instructional Designers, Graphic Artists, Videographers, and Animators. Together, they helped organizations build effective training systems that benefited countless individuals.
Over the years, Chris’s dedication and excellence in his field garnered recognition. He received the prestigious 2020 Coach Educator of the Year from the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, and the 2020 Coach of the Year Award for his volunteer coaching contributions to The Buddy Werner League at Beaver Creek. His exceptional skills and contributions led to an invitation to join the Buddy Werner Board of Directors.
Despite his busy schedule, Chris always made time for his family and hobbies. He now resides in the beautiful Vail Valley in Colorado with his wife, son, daughter, lab mix, and golden retriever. Whenever he’s not immersed in work, you can find him enjoying the great outdoors. He loves mountain biking, backpacking, playing disc golf, strumming his guitar, riding motorcycles, and, of course, skiing and snowboarding with his loved ones and friends.
Chris Packert’s life journey is a testament to the power of following one’s passions and the joy of making a positive impact on others’ lives. As he continues to thrive in his career and personal pursuits, Chris remains an inspiration to those who dream of finding fulfillment and success in life’s unexpected twists and turns.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
“Measure What Matters” by John Doerr: This book emphasizes the significance of setting clear objectives and using data-driven metrics to achieve meaningful results. John Doerr introduces the OKR (Objectives and Key Results) framework, a goal-setting system used by many successful companies, to drive focus, alignment, and accountability. The book stresses the importance of having ambitious yet achievable goals and encourages organizations to cultivate a culture of transparency, where progress is constantly monitored and communicated. One key takeaway is the idea that well-defined goals, coupled with constant measurement and feedback, can empower individuals and teams to perform at their best and drive significant progress and innovation within any organization.
“Transformational Leadership” by Bass and Avolio: This book delves into the concept of transformational leadership, which focuses on inspiring and motivating followers to achieve exceptional outcomes. Bass and Avolio propose that transformational leaders exhibit specific qualities, such as charisma, intellectual stimulation, individualized consideration, and inspirational motivation. They inspire their teams to go beyond their self-interests and work towards a collective vision. The book highlights the positive impact of transformational leaders on employee satisfaction, organizational performance, and overall growth. A crucial takeaway is that leadership is not solely about managing tasks but also about igniting passion and unleashing the potential in others to foster long-term success.
“Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning” by Peter C. Brown: This book explores effective learning techniques based on cognitive psychology research. It challenges traditional learning methods, suggesting that many widely-used strategies, like re-reading and highlighting, may not be as effective as they seem. Instead, the book emphasizes practices such as spaced repetition, active recall, and interleaving, which enhance memory retention and long-term learning. Additionally, the authors stress the importance of embracing challenges and making mistakes as part of the learning process. A key takeaway is that by understanding how our brains truly absorb and retain information, individuals can optimize their learning efforts and acquire knowledge more efficiently, leading to better mastery of skills and concepts.
In summary, these three books provide valuable insights for personal and organizational growth. “Measure What Matters” emphasizes goal-setting and continuous evaluation to drive progress and innovation. “Transformational Leadership” highlights the significance of inspiring and motivating others towards a shared vision. “Make It Stick” sheds light on evidence-based learning techniques that can enhance knowledge retention and skill development. Integrating the principles from these books can lead to more effective goal achievement, better leadership practices, and improved learning outcomes in both personal and professional contexts.
