We were lucky to catch up with Chris Murray recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I would say I am very happy as a musician. I am grateful to be a part of a thriving community of musicians, artists and music lovers that inspire me and are willing to help on my journey. Sometimes I wonder what it would be like to have a “regular” job with more stability financially and possibly mentally, but I am extremely thankful to be on the path I am with the opportunities and support I have been given this far.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Howdy folks! I am a songwriter, live looper, multi-instrumentalist, and part of a wonderful Psych/Rock/Grass group established this year (2023) called The Bramblers. In 2018 I started playing music regularly with some of my best friends and a few solo shows in 2020. I started practicing a lot and taking the idea of pursuing music full time seriously in the following year.
I play a mix of fun, funky, bluegrass, folk and rock. Ranging from the sound of a solo musician to the sound of a full band on my live loop set up playing guitar, bass, piano, percussion and singing. I have flexibility as a solo musician to book around my schedule, travel, improvise, play at a diverse and large number of venues and roll with the punches of life and the music industry.
I am proud and grateful to have released my first album this year “Canyon Cache”. This album is 8 original tracks featuring Colorado based musicians and friends Brendan Poor, Brian Keller, Caleb D’Aleo, Chris Martella, Colin Reef, Eric Beutel, Joel Zeiner, Julia Kent, Rhiannon Bruns and Steve Kirsch.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for myself is being a part of the creative community of artists, musicians, writers, climbers, adventurers and yogis that are full of life inspire me to live my life to the fullest.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support your friends and local businesses, buy the ticket, go to the show, help promote shows and music, stream their music and send it to other people who may enjoy it, buy the t-shirt, buy the artwork.
