We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chris Michael a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris , thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
In a room meant to be a closet, was the genesis of Chris Michael, Men’s Stylist and Image Consultant. It was in the depths of brokenness, where the world saw meas broke, busted, and disgusted; that the divine intervention of the Lord found me. From that moment, mylife transformed into a testament of purpose, renewal, and identity.
As a father of three children, I was faced with the pain of absence, realizing I had lost my way despite knowing what it meant to be a father. Yet, through the grace of God, Idiscovered a new calling, one deeply rooted in faith and redemption.
Before styling , I ventured into the world of music, spending over a decade as an R&B artist. Throughout my journey, I styled his group for every performance, every event, every meeting—I had a flair for aesthetics shining through even in the realm of music. Alongside his musical endeavors, Chris found success as a published, signed model for over twelve years, gracing the pages with his charisma and style.
However, amidst these accolades, I found that true transformation didn’t come from external validation. It was the encounter with Christ that reshaped my understanding of self and purpose. Embracing the scripture from Colossians 3:10, I founded The New Man LLC, not just as a business, but as a mission to empower men to discover their true identity.
Today, I stand not just as a stylist but as a mentor, guiding men of all ages to recognize their inherent value and potential. My years serve as a testament that mistakes do not define us, but rather, it’s the acceptance of our true selves that leads to confidence and style that transcends outward appearances. Through my work, I teaches others to see themselves anew, liberated from the shackles of their past, embracing the promise of a renewed identity in Christ.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got my start when I started in music. I was in a group for 10 years lol. I started as teenager. Then it slowly formed into real artisty. We opened for celebrities and tours and for all those big events; I styled us to ensure our performance and artisty matched what we were trying to convey on stage. Of course while I styled my group, I styled friends and anyone who asked from all shapes and sizes to help them look their best for any event or special occasion.
When I started my business; I did not realize I was styling clients lol I just thought it I was helping them overall. Overcoming insecurities, helping them find the right items that their body type, what colors and styles look best and of course upgrading their overall look and make them feel good about themselves when they walk out the door.
Now within my business, I use that same motto and offer styling services such as: wardrobe haul; personal styling & personal shopping.
What I’ve learned throughout all my years of styling is not only what trends of style will look best but I empower tmy client to reach their goals. Whether its simply upgrading their style or starting a new business venture. I walk with my clients and dress them in their uniform to fight for their new goals.
I like to put it as “I am dressing them in their uniform of who they want to be”.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I started my business 4 years ago. At the time I started it, I just enrolled in school, living with my parents and broke.
Throughout the years, my thought was this business would be sustain me and I would be self-employed lol as we all know, that doesn’t happen that way.
I wanted to give up many times, when my job(s) became stressful or just working continuely to pay bills and fund this business to get the business to make funny. It became very daughting.
Now, 4 years later I am working with more entrepreneurs, businesses and more opportunities now than I ever have before. At the time, I saw the need for the business however, now my specific business and goals is now being looked for vehemently, everywhere.
You have to believe in your business stands for in service of people and why you started.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Being a first time entrepreneur; I was completely obvlious to what was required of me. I assumed what I needed was the normal construct of a business which was; a business plan, marketing, advertising, website, clientele, pitch, mentors, etc.
I believed I had to have all of that in order for the business to even start. I did not know where to start or how to even begin when in reality, I didn’t need anyone else to start aka begin my business.
What I’ve learned is the entrepreneurial process is one where most don’t know what they’re doing or how to overcome certain obstacles, because we’ve never been in this position.
It has shown me, that you don’t need the best equipment, the best website, a click funnel, or even the yes of others to start and build your business.
If you have a business and you want to build it, build it. Don’t wait. Learn it. Apply it. Make changes and go again. It will rewire your mind to become stronger.
