We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris McMurry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.

Chris, appreciate you joining us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?

A customer saw several pieces of art that they liked, but could only afford two of my larger prints. They purchased the prints and I offered a couple of small prints in appreciation and gave them my business card. The customer was really happy.

Chris, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

I’ve always been a creative person, making art, writing, photography and music. I always created work that I wanted to see and would just hang it on my walls. In 2018 I had a get together at my house and unbeknownst to me, one of the attendees was a curator who saw my art on the wall. They asked me what I was doing with it, and I mentioned that I just create for the enjoyment. They put me in a exhibition and I’ve been exhibiting since then and have built a following for my work. I love that I am able to share my work with others. My brand is Chris McMurry, a 360 Experience which is about being unlimited with creativity. It includes my visual art, writing, photography and music.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

When I first started I didn’t know how to market myself. I had someone offer to market my work, but it was for a hefty fee. I decided to take the leap and promote myself as a brand and getting in touch with my neighborhood and other creatives, I got really engaged in marketing and it has resulted in brand recognition. I feel like I’ve come a long way.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I invested in prints and cards and did a few markets which gave me capital to expand my inventory.
