We recently connected with Chris Maloney and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My most meaningful creative project of my life would unequivocally be the Wallace Theatre. I’ve ultimately had 2 career paths in my life – actor/improviser and web marketer. The discover and opening of the theatre was in itself a serendipitous chain of events, and the secret of it’s success has been the combination of my career talents.
The Wallace has given dozens of people a new direction and hobby. I’ve watched new comics go from green to touring regionally. I’ve met people from much larger cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York that are blown away by the shows we’re doing as it rivals what they’ve seen in their home states.
We’ve also given an opportunity for filmmakers to display their art form. We currently hold 2 major film fesitivals a year, but we also screen smaller film events throughout the year from local filmmakers. This past weekend we held our 3rd annual 52 Film Festival where filmmakers have a weekend to write, shoot, and edit a 5 minute film. We had record turnout this year with 13 filmmaking teams which includes 3 college & 1 high school team. The public screening of the films was an absolute blowout.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The book that changed my professional life was Rich Dad, Poor Dad. The economy crash of 2008/2009 ruined me and I had to drop the performance career and switch to programming / web marketing. I read the book in 2009, and made the conscious decision to become financial independent by saving my money and pursuing income producing assets

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
In similar fashion to the above prompt, I had to make a major pivot in 2010. I had been pursuing professional entertainment/performance for about 10 years, but the economy crash of 2008/2009 changed everything and dried up many opportunities. I decided to switch careers at that point into a different creative field – web design and development. When started the field, it was my hope that eventually I could work more independently, and return to acting.
