We were lucky to catch up with Chris Kregger recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
We set ourselves apart from the corporate and industry standard by providing high quality material and labor, communicate openly with clients about cost, innovative in our custom designs, and we use materials new to the industry.
We’ve learned many things through the years. A few key lessons are: Do things correctly the first time because you will have to redo them later, and use high grade material to makes things last longer and hold up over time.
When we provide cost updates with our clients they get to choose where they would like to focus their money. That way they get to have exactly what they want.
Often I find myself brainstorming with the client and coming up with ideas that are outside of the box. Then I come up with a way to make that into a reality.
For example, a customer wanted a large vent hood, when I say large I mean crazy BIG! We drew and designed a 12’ wood vent hood in the kitchen. It turned out beautiful and is an absolute show stopper!
In another home, there were some dead corners in a closet. I came up with this design for a rotating shoe shelf that would hold 48 pairs of shoes. It was a great use of the space but also it looked really cool!
Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started working in the construction industry at a young age. I worked for a farm and a flooring company at the age of 15. In both jobs I was taught many problem solving skills. After I completed high school, I served a mission in Ukraine. This helped me learn a language and learn how to work well with others. It also helped me expand my capabilities and grow my sales skills.
I came home from my mission and worked a flooring company and then started Infinity Custom Homes in 2016. We started out slow building one custom home at a time and a remodel project every so often. The last few years business has picked up and we are currently building eight custom homes and are working on multiple remodel projects.
I’m the most proud of my family. With Infinity Custom Homes, I am the most proud of the custom features that we put in every build. I’m proud of the homes we have created for families to enjoy and that we get to help them build their dream.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I was working in the flooring and remodel industry and started looking for new challenges and opportunities. I decided to make a change and go into home building and created Infinity Custom Homes. I started with 1 house at a time 8 years ago and now we are up to 14 projects at once and continue to grow.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my business partner, Matt Mower, by working for him as a contractor. I would remodel a section of his home every Christmas for 3 years in a row. Matt decided to make a change in profession and he came to work with me on a trial basis. It worked really well, and has helped me grow the business.
