We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chris Jenkins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chris below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
Koluna ran into the issue of having a member face a life choice that had them step away. Brad took time to take on a new degree program and spend more time at home. We then brought in my long time friend, Garrett to take on the role. A few months passed and Brad found balance in life allowing him to return. Thus, we ran into the greatest problem any band could have. We now have essentially a revolving lineup that allows for us to not be as picky with show dates in that if Brad can’t play, Garrett can, and vice versa. We are all very tight as friends which has been the reason we have all been able to continue forward this way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
We’re Koluna! We’re from Martinsburg, WV. We formed during the Covid-19 Pandemic in the summer of 2020. We started playing out a bit in May 2021. We’ve played with Atilla, Gemini Syndrome, A Killer’s Confession, Cultus Black, Tallah, Half Heard Voices, and a few other touring bills! We’ve played a good bit regionally on the East Coast.
We have music available on pretty much all streaming platforms. Find us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/kolunaofficial
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Chris: I enjoy seeing the smiles and headbangs of the crowd each time we play. Music is therapy for me and I always hope it is for those in the audience, as well.
Garrett: Giving people an outlet. It’s therapeutic for people to come out to shows and enjoy the moment of a live experience.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Chris: During the Pandemic when things were very slow in the world, when the local bars and the like opened, but couldn’t have shows, I made sure to chat with people and promote what was to come. I shared teasers, stickers, links to our page, and encouraged them to follow us when the time for shows returned.
