We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chris Janssen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’m launching my second book, Grace Yourself: How to Show Up for the Sober Life You Want on February 18, 2025! Grace Yourself is a guide for anyone struggling with controlling thoughts or addiction to move beyond self-limiting behavior into a life of fullness and freedom. Grace Yourself shares my struggle, recovery, and the coaching tools that help keep me living the life I want. Before getting sober in 2007 I thought I was a monster because I couldn’t quit alcohol for a sustainable amount of time. This was an absurd belief because I was a high performer in all other areas of my life. And yet, I tied my worth to the one thing I couldn’t control instead of the many things I was accomplishing. A woman in my first recovery meeting said to me, “It’s not your fault. It’s like an allergy. Stick around—we’ll show you the solution.” The fact was I was trapped by an addictive substance. The story I attached to that fact was, “I am a monster because I can’t quit this habit on my own.” The woman’s declaration instantly changed my monster narrative to “I am deserving of recovery and a sober community because I can’t quit this habit on my own.” This was a huge belief shift that changed my life and inspired me to write down how to help others do the same. The stories we attach to our facts become our beliefs. In my books I walk you through how to change the narratives surrounding your facts to stories that serve you—in life, not only habits or addictions. The truth is—you and I are worthy no matter what. Grace can’t be earned and we are not in control of our worth. When we believe we are, we miss out on grace.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a results coach in performance and mindset and bestselling author of “Living All In: How to Show Up for the Life You Want.” I’ve had the privilege of working with hundreds of sought-after athletes, creatives, soldiers, entrepreneurs, and small businesses internationally to close the gap between where they are and where they want to be. My training includes being taught by and working with Tony Robbins on his team of results coaches, the #1 personal development and peak performance strategy company in the world. A California native, I live with my husband since 1995, Scott. We love to ski, golf, be with our horses, and adventure outside. Together we raised three children, now thriving young adults.
As a board-certified coach, my sweet spot is helping high-achieving perfectionists navigate performance pressure and overcome self-sabotage. I got my master’s in counseling psychology immediately after college. Years later, when my kids were in high school, coaching came on the scene and I knew I wanted to shift to coaching instead of counseling, so I went back to school for my certification.
I’m excited about getting my next project into the world! My 2nd book, “Grace Yourself: How to Show Up for the Sober Life You Want” is available now for pre-order where books are sold. Pre-orders mean the world to authors. Please help me spread my message and impact. Every book sold helps me help others!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Coaching is about what works, not what hasn’t worked in the past. I love what I do because coaches are trained to ask, not tell. I ask powerful questions that lead my clients forward rather than giving advice. It’s invigorating to watch people get unstuck and accomplish the life they want. We all have loveliness and value. Sometimes, us humans forget our worth. A good coach will uncover our blindspots, highlight our strengths, and lead us where we want to go.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I’m a person of faith and my personal and profession mission is to love God by encouraging His people to know their self-worth. I do this through writing and coaching. My tools are focused on getting people unstuck and leading them toward the life they want for themselves.
