We recently connected with Chris Hndrixx and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew at a very young age that the normal 9-5 job for the rest of my life wasn’t the move for me. I started making music just to see if i could and what it would sound like, then i fell in love with it. Not just making the music, but the feeling other people have when listening to my music. My dad is a Neo Soul/Gospel artist and my mom is a Poetess, so I’ve been surrounded by music and lyrics my whole life. I knew at around the end of Middle School that this is what i wanted to pursue. The more i researched artists and how they started, the more my dreams felt like they were in arms reach.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well, my artist name is ChrisHndrixx. Chris comes from my first name, and Hndrixx comes from Future and Jimi Hendricks. Future is a well known artist that drops hit after hit consistently, you can’t go to ANY club and not hear a Future song. That taught me to be consistent with everything, even if i’m not releasing a song, i can release content for my latest song and etc. As for Jimi Hendricks, most people don’t know that he makes actual songs with him singing on it. Many just know him as one of the greatest guitar players to ever play. That taught me that even thought i’m multi-talented, some people might like me for one song or one album, or for singing instead of rapping and vice verse. Not to let it get to me, cause in a way, they still like me and what i do. I’m from West Palm Beach, Florida, Most people in South Florida either knows me, knows of me, or have seen my face on social media somewhere. My creative journey started with me making YouTube videos about skits, rants, parodies, and reactions. I found quick success on YouTube, cause of my personality and jokes. But YouTube’s algorithm changed and caused me to sort of leave YouTube and focus more on making music. I’m most proud of how far I’ve came from now to the idea i had years ago of actually being a music artist. I’m constantly learning and growing, so my latest song is always my favorite song.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Man, i know you’ve probably heard people say this a lot. But consistency is definitely key! The world we live in has a very short attention span cause there’s just so much content being thrown in your face at the same time. Even if it’s the same post, post it 3 times a day! These days you can’t just be talented and people will like you, the world has access to Millions of talented individuals! You have to basically force your content or work in their face, and if it’s good, you’ll gain more supporters than people that won’t like it.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I was trying to make music to cater to the audience that i thought would like it. Instead of making music that i really liked, i had to be more genuine and make music for me instead of other people. We all have lived the same life for the most part, so my heartbreak is your heartbreak. Any thing i can make a song about that resonates with my life, will most likely resonate with someone else as well. In Conclusion, don’t limit yourself! have fun and do what you want!
