We recently connected with Chris Dyer and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects Ive done was when I was asked to paint a mural at the Bob Marley Mausoleum and Museum in Jamaica! I’ve been a huge Bob Marley fan since I was a teenager in Lima, Peru. His music and story have always inspired me and still does today! To be able to go to the mountains of 9 Mile, where Bob was born and later buried, to connect with the kind rastas who ran the place, and paint for them was a huge honour and joy!
Ironically, later on during that same trip, I was visiting the Mausoleum of fellow “Wailers” band member, the legendary Peter Tosh, and I was randomly asked to do a piece on his Tomb’s wall! It was an honour to do art on the resting place of yet another reggae legend I’ve admired and been inspired by for most of my life!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Ok. So I’ve been an artist all my life. I grew up in Lima, Peru where I would skate surf and draw. Once I moved to Canada at age 17 I started to draw cartoons and comics. I also took 7 years of art college and learned all sorts of fine and commercial art styles! My first art show and jobs where all about skateboard art and graphics and by now Ive done over 100 skate illustrations for some of the biggest brands of the industry.
Once the skateboard became too small of a canvas I continued to paint my inner spiritual visions on larger canvases. This led me to doing group and solo exhibitions all around the world!
My canvas kept on growing once I learned how to use spray paint. I was able to paint street art and murals all over the world, both for fun and as jobs. My murals are in a few Museums including in places like Amsterdam, Russia and Peru.
During this time I also started to live paint at Music Festivals and teach art workshops all around the planet.
I also created a popular clothing and art accessories brand called Positive Creations that still runs strong today!
I have my own documentary, a Travel video series, a Podcast and several Published books.
My latest project is called the “Galaktic Gang” which is an NFT series (of 5555) that sold out in a week and has been holding strong as another of my positive communities!
Im 43 years old by now, so I am quite satisfied with what Ive accomplished in life and just want to keep being of service to the humans of this planet. I want to raise teh vibration so we can become more loving n united as one spirit.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I think that if people like art and want to support artists, they should start by attending their exhibitions or events. If they can afford to buy original art and products, that is very helpful. And when birthdays and X-mas comes, instead of buying commercial products from big corporations like Walmart or Amazon, go to your favorite artist’s online store and purchase their goods. This financial support will provide you with their medicine and keep their rents paid so they can keep producing!
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My priority is to express myself. I also allow my inner soul to communicate with my more external mind self. This helps me understand my process and becomes a healing experience.
I also am open for positive interdimensional entities to be channelled through me, to visually say ‘hello” to the inhabitants of this physical realm.
I also want to offer images as visual medicine for others to find resonance. If their process is understood, they can have more motivation to keep pushing forward in it.
I also just have fun with all the different kinds of arts I do, cause it is my nature!
