We were lucky to catch up with Chris Damianakos recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, thanks for joining us today. One of the things we most admire about small businesses is their ability to diverge from the corporate/industry standard. Is there something that you or your brand do that differs from the industry standard? We’d love to hear about it as well as any stories you might have that illustrate how or why this difference matters.
As we move forward as a creative game endevor for the past 22 seasons are goal is always to re-invent ourselves and our product. By doing this our game experiecne is not predicatable because outside of new clients we also have many repeat clients..so we never want to rehash the same experience they once had playing in one of our previous seasons. We keep up with new ideas and technologies to take advantage on those avenues and imbed them into our experiences. Also we are big believers of keeping physical game materials intact with the inclusion of app based back end to give our players the ultimate scavenger hunt experience with the mixture of a traditional and tech game experience.
Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
So I have been in the entrainment field for many years, 25 to be exact. I have been a part-time performer as well as created my own dinner theater from 1998 to to 2000. Also as a kid I loved creating games for friends to play especially 8 bit games and choose your adventure games through my Commodore computer. (Now I feel old) Loved watching friends compete in my game creations and what was once a hobby became a full time business as Game producer for the past 22 years. The creative industry used to be known as a non-realistic road as an occupation. I beg to differ because I am a prime example of shutting out the noise and moving forward. So in today’s world of no-realistic careers they have indeed become the norm and more realistic than ever. With that said I still have to explain to people what I do for a living when asked.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
One cool marketing idea I had was that when our clients game was over, it actually wasn’t. What do I mean you may ask? All our game booklets look a lot like old comic books that contain the variety of challenges a Cashunt game provides. But sometimes certain pages go un-noticed..such a page that looks like a false ad..that players would probably think a a graphic art page filler. However we told players to hold their game booklets till the end of the season and follow us online because we will place a promotion on our social and the ad would unveil a location of where we have a special card that is hidden in the city that would reward them with a gift certificate or maybe even a sporting event. It’s hard to explain, but we wanted their game booklets not be active during the game but be active for the remainder of the year.
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
The Jury is still out on NFT’s.. I believe its still early but if used correctly they can make great additions to promotional / marketing pieces.
