We were lucky to catch up with Chris Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
After spending 9 years in corporate, I was furloughed during the pandemic in July of 2020. I was sitting back home thinking what do I do? At that time there were no jobs so I decided I would never go back to corporate and chart my own path. I started Toss and Spin and never looked back. We went from 10 players to over 20,000 players interacting with our brand over the last year.

Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am originally from Battle Creek Michigan, and grew up loving basketball. My dad told me if I stick to tennis it will take you to places that I have never been. I received a college tennis scholarship to the University of Toledo. After finishing undergrad with a degree in Marketing, I completed my MBA at Toledo while being an assistant coach for the women’s tennis team. After Grad School I have held marketing and product positions at Gatorade, Wilson, and Kraft Heinz.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
The biggest piece of my journey is understanding self and what you are truly good at. I have learned over the years that we think a lot of things are fun to do but what is your superpower? My is being able to understand a corporate landscape to offer racket sports to all.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
As an entrepreneur I feel as though you are always adopting and adjusting. The world is changing so fast. Toss and Spin really started as tennis only. But now our pickleball business is much bigger than tennis. Adopting has allowed the business to continue growing.
