Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Chris Childs. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Chris, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In general, life is a risk. You have those that play it safe and you have others that decide to skydive out of the plane. As an entrepreneur, we’re the skydivers. At the end of the day, we have to be held 100% responsible of whatever may happen with a client, the end results of a project/ collaboration, communication, employees, etc. Personally, I try not to take the safe route in majority of my situations.
I do this because I strive for impact! I ask myself questions such as: How will I impact the space that I’m in? Is my creation (art/content) valuable or is it just “shock value”? How does this effect my audience? There’s more questions as well but this goes along with the risk factor that we’re talking about. If your brand plays it safe, then I guess that’s okay but all of the brands that I’ve either studied or “changed the game” has taken risks in order to break and surpass barriers. I believe that’s admirable.
Chris, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Chris Childs, I’m a Kansas City – Wichita State University/ ESCE International byproduct. I’m the youngest sibling from a family full of hustlers. One of my favorite shows growing up was “Ed, Edd, & Eddy”, I believe that impacted my business sense the most. I learned at a young age that instead of scamming people, if you give them something that’s actually valuable, then you’ll become successful in life.
My position is the CEO of Chris Childs (www.shopchrischilds.com), in which we provide custom shoes, restorations, photography/videography services. We also sell shirts, stickers, and art canvases on the website. Our products help clients display their fashion sense and aid in decor for interior design.
-One thing that I’m always proud of is my ability to challenge myself and to raise the bar. I strongly believe that in the future, Chris Childs will be able to compete with some of the top street wear and luxury brands on the market.
I also run Luxury Apparel Printing (www.luxuryapparelprinting.com). We provide merchandise printing and embroidery services on items like shirts, hats, pants, bags, etc. The services we provide assists businesses, organizations, and entrepreneurs in promoting and expanding their brand.
-My goal is to curate a trustworthy and luxurious brand that people feel prideful to associate with. Being able to help from others brand and supplying them the best quality garments are key in executing our goal.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Clients and testimonials! I believe those two are the most important things to have as a tool because future customers are able to have an unbiased opinion on your quality, services, and overall professionalism as a whole. Having a client list with positive testimonials are key because what they say about you and your company will spread to others. Once that happens, it’ll either positively or negatively impact your brand and the success or failure that could come with it.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
There’s so many different approaches and combinations that you can do to help grow your clientele. Here’s some of my tactics. -Social Media Influencers: Get people to help push and market your brand. Preferably have them be in the same niche as your brand, this helps a lot in order to get yourself in front of their audience.
-Marketing Ads: Platforms such as TikTok and Instagram helps bring in a ton of customers. Here you’ll be able to keep the data and understand who and where your clients are coming from as well.
-Cold Calling: This is more so done for my L.A.P brand. We call different business and organizations in order to see how we can help them with anything merch related. As in, creating brand shirts/uniforms, hats, etc. for their employees to wear.
-Testimonials: We just went over word of mouth, this is still one of the best tactics ever to be done! This helps give the clients a personal experience of what someone else has been through and what to expect.
-Social Media: Post all the time! It’s free, why not use it?
