We were lucky to catch up with Chris Bustamante recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Chris thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In 2020 after coming out of the NFL as a un drafted free agent I was left with a very hard decision to make. I was left with the choice to either give up on my dream or to continue believing in my talent and find a way to make my dream a reality. I decided that I was going to believe in myself at all cost and continue my journey to becoming a Pro Football Player. During this period was some of the hardest times of my life. I was Broke, I was living with my mom at my grandmas house, and I was training for months just waiting for an opportunity to show up. After months of training I was given my first major Break. I received a invitation to play with the Spring League which is the same league that players like Johnny Manziel, Shawn Oakman, and Greg Hardy played in to get them back to the NFL. During my time with the Spring League all my hard work for those several months payed off and I had great success and performed really well. After I Finished with the Spring League I was talking to many NFL and CFL teams but still no contract had been offered and a big reason for that was because this is when Covid 19 was at its peak and had affected many athletes and their futures. None the less, one day I woke up and received a call from a coach that was the offense of coordinator for the San Antonio Gunslingers and he offered me a opportunity to go out there for two days and prove to them that I deserve to make this team. This was their last two days of making Final cuts and I had to show them that I could be a valuable asset to the team. This is when I had to take a huge risk. I either stay Home where I was still broke doing Door Dash just to make a living or I head out to san Antonio where I was planning to live out my car for those two days in an effort to get a contract. Again I betted on myself, took the risk and made the trip to San Antonio that next morning. Once I got to San Antonio it was all business. the first day of practice I absolutely killed it and made sure the coaching staff knew that I was about my Business. That next and final practice I was on a mission. I had yet another great practice where I left it all on the line. But was it good enough? Three days later I received a call from the Offense Of Coordinator and he said that they were going to offer me a Contract. I Had never felt so blessed in my life, just to know that all my hard work, dedication, and struggle paid off. This opportunity jump started my career. After having a Great season with the San Antonio Gunslingers The contract offers started rolling in from many different Pro football teams. In 2022 I made the decision to sign with the Wyoming Mustangs. I just finished up my season with the team and after a great season I am now back in discussion with many NFL, CFL, and XFL teams. I don’t know what future holds but I know no matter what it all started with me taking that risk and leaving my Home town of El Paso, TX.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was born in Wichita, KS and moved to El Paso, TX at the age of four years old. I naturally gravitated towards sports playing Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, etc. However, by the age of eight years old I fell in love with the game of football and new instantly that this is what I wanted to do for a very long time. For years to come I dedicated so much time into perfecting my craft. I went to Horizon High School where I had a Good Football career and by the time I hit my senior year I received a Scholarship and decided to attend Lakeland University in Sheboygan, WI. After four years and a great football career I received an invitation to the 2020 NFL Combine where I became a un drafted free agent. I continued my journey to becoming a Pro Football Player and stayed Training. A couple months later I received an Invitation to play with the Spring league. the same League Johnny manziel, Shawn oakman, and Greg Hardy played in to help them get back to the NFL. After a Great Performance with the Spring League I received a pro contract to play for the San Antonio Gunslingers which kick started my career. After a great season with the Gunslingers the contract offers were rolling in and I made the decision to play for the Wyoming Mustangs for the 2022 season. I just finished up my season with the Mustangs and now have been blessed to be talking to Multiple NFL,CFL, and XFL teams. However, throughout this whole journey I have ventured off into other fields like becoming a influencer on Youtube which I started back in college during my senior year. My Youtube channel has accumulated millions of views and I can definitely see this as a full time job for me after football. You can find my channel on youtube by searching up cb3_era. I recently have just launched my own clothing line called CB3 BRAND and I am very excited to take this brand to the very top. You can check out the clothing line at officialcb3brand.com. I also own my own personal training business called CB3 Performance where I take a lot of pride on taking my athletes to the next level and passing on my knowledge. If there is one thing I want my supporters to know is that it is never okay to give up on your dreams. Believe in your self at all cost and beat the odds. You can do anything you put your mind to and literally have everything you ever wanted at your finger tips. Stay consistent, work hard, and fight through the struggle.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Absolutely, I was blessed with great parents who installed amazing values in me and its my duty to make sure that I change my families life and put them in a great position financially and emotionally. Before my mother passed away due to cancer I made a promise to her that I would take care of my brother and other family members and this is now what drives my creative journey because she deserves to have been here to witness and experience what she herself created.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by just being me and not pretending to be someone else. I am naturally goofy, hardworking, and self motivated which rubs off really well on others. I want to do nothing else but be a positive member of society and inspire those all around the world to tap into their gifts and offer something amazing to the world. If your looking to build a social media presence make sure to utilize all social media platforms and start building your own personal brand. The best way to do this is to simply ask yourself what do you want people to remember you by.
