We were lucky to catch up with Chris Burks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Chris, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
When I was young, at about 14, I always wanted to learn the process of figuring out how music “got on” CDs and things. A group of friends & I (late middle school, early high school) would write raps all of the time and I eventually established my path with my family and partners to where i was going from city to city with them on roadtrips or “tours” as they performed. As I was learning the backgrounds with them, I was growing my own fan base, and learning how to become my own person and it gradually got me thinking I could do it myself and take it as far as I wanted it to go.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I currently am a recording artist from the state of Michigan & I think what keeps me apart from others is the way that I operate with people. As an individual I think the most important portion of it is building relationships and I have gotten to the point where I am proud to say I have been able to build connections to where I have a decent following that believes in what I do and would be able to push me farther. I say I am proud of it because I used to be a real introvert about everything.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to learn is that there is nothing wrong with sharing other peoples stories and journeys. If you think its cool to you, its okay to share it and vice versa. You are you & have your own opinion.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I use to hate being on social media for the longest because i always thought I needed to think of good content to post when in reality you can just post. Post and comment and share things you like or think are interesting, and it grew that way just being social.
